ASFS changes will wait until Reed.

What are mongo trailers?

How disappointing. They had a real opportunity to do some good in the county. The school board has no backbone..

By the time Reed opens, the number of kids there will make the argument for neighborhood even stronger. Houses are turning over faster their than out NW neighborhoods.

Why can’t the kids in Rosslyn go to Longbranch? That’s a straight shot up 50 and closer?

When were they initially planning on moving the choice schools? I thought I was told it was always after 2020, so is this really even a change? Or is it just that they won't even think about it until 2020/21 so it won't get done till 2025 or however long it takes?

Except that APS got rid of the team model last year and ASFS can’t handle all the kids in the Key boundary. Even if they keep most of the boundary intact, APS will have to trim somewhere. Plus, how does ASFS backtrack from all its talk about reducing busing and every school having a walk zone? What are they going to say, sorry ASFS, in our strive to make everything equitable everyone gets a walk zone except you?

Those changes are too huge to make on their own. Any changes they make would be locked in because they won’t change PUs 2x in such a short period of time. Change some to LB and then to Key a few years later? Nope.

Without having a neighborhood school at Key they can’t make a walk zone for ASFS. They would need to take PUs, not add them.

They will add trailers and take away the tiny bit of outdoor space there is there.

I have to say I’m really surprised. Do you think this is a reaction to so much community push back?

Absolutely. Cave to the option school parents primarily.

No. Except for the fact that it leaves ASFS in a terrible situation, makes more sense to do this closer to Reed opening. Hopefully this means more attention will be paid to the impending HS crisis, which is a much bigger issue and more difficult to address.

It's because they are going to open Reed as an option school, so nothing moves until then. Surprise!!!

+2

What was the point of sending that email telling everyone that “doing nothing is not an option” just to ... do nothing? A couple of boundary adjustments to fill the new Drew, that’s it. Great.

Let’s hope so.
