APS elementary planning initiative called off

When did they say that they would revisit the issue of where to put the option schools?

And don’t they still have to draw boundaries for around Key. Won’t that still be a major shake-up?
Anonymous
Reed is still there. Murphy said as they get closer to Reed in 2021 they may revisit the option school discussion

+1 There's still plenty of drama to come with just redrawing boundaries.

I think we'll get back to it soon enough. The document says "Suspend plans to consider moving any Elementary
Neighborhood or Option Schools in Sept. 2019" and if you look at the Engage website now it says this "Summers 2020; 2021 – If any elementary schools will move to a new location, these moves will take place during the summers of 2020 and 2021."

So yeah, it looks like this is a temporary reprieve, which makes sense because Reed isn't in play until 2021 at the earliest.

They will find that they need all those seats for neighborhood by the time Reed opens. Smart move.

I don’t think they set a date, just “as we prepare for Reed in 2021.” My guess is they’ll pick it up again in Fall of 2019 or early 2020, that would give them time to make a decision in the Fall of 2020 before options and transfers for 2021-22 opens in February 2021.

Reed will probably still be there, but just because Murphy says it doesn’t make it a guarantee. Murphy’s not the decision maker on that and the board has been pushing back on his proposed CIP.

My bet is a Reed delay with the possibility that it becomes an option school.

I agree with this. It would be insane for them to have invested this much energy into something to abandon it

Always punting. It's their MO.

Will the SB be able to fix the Key/ASF/Taylor boundaries in Fall of 2018 Elementary Boundary Process? It would great to give ASF a boundary that actually surrounds it. The Taylor zone could extend nicely into Rosslyn if needed.

So kids in Rosslyn should bus past TWO elementary schools to get to their neighborhood school?

2 isn't bad, just look at Ashlawn. We need to make ASF a real neighborhood school, instead of a fake one.

Why does that matter? It’s been very successful as it is now, they will probably wait to adjust boundaries until Reed is built, and just give them mongo trailers
