Do you have a hobby?

I have been thinking of doing this! May I ask, is it a church choir? Everything unrelated to a church seems to be a paid position and a bit much for me! Thanks.

It is a church choir. But the Levine School's adult program has two choruses, one for beginners and one for more experienced singers (rehearsals during the day). And there is another amateur chorus called the Runnymede Singers that meets near Dupont Circle on Tuesday evenings.

I ignored my hobbies in my 20s to focus on career. When I turned 30 and realized how long it had been since I danced or wrote or painted, I went on a mission to weave them back into my life again. One dance class a week became three, four, five and now 13!

Now I am illustrating/designing a book I wrote over the past year. I work on that one, here and there, usually after the kids are in bed.

I would love to paint more, but it's one more mess to clean up!

ZMom-so interesting you said this-ten years ago (I'm in my forties) I got into jewelry making with beads. Yes, I'm a beader. After reading your post I remembered that I had a beading phase in my childhood around nine or ten where I collected beads and made things from them. The collecting was as important as the creating. Funny thing is, it's the same way now-finding and collecting interesting beads is as enjoyable as creating new things with them.

Before I had kids I cooked and baked, read, watched interesting movies with subtitles, walked, etc etc.

Now the only hobby I have is once or twice a week I play a D&D MMORPG. My husband got me hooked while I was pregnant, then decided it was too easy and quit playing. Now that the kids are sleeping through the night (most nights) and the game recently became free to play, I get on for an hour or two before bed. I'll prolly get flamed for it being immature/childish/nerdy but its the only oppotunity I have to talk to grown ups about something besides baby stuff.

My hobby is photography, although I rarely have time for it now with two kids. I love going off on my own with a camera and exploring.

I used to do needlepoint - still have several half-finished projects - but again, no time to do it...

I think I will look into doing this, I have been searching for a hobby to get me out of the house without DC, I love riding horses and I think there is a place near my house.

Do it. My mom and I started 29 years ago (when I was 7). She still rides once a week (at age 70), and some of our best (and only) conversations that occurred during my obnoxious teenage years were in the car to and from the barn. Its a lifelong sport, and something you may get a lot of pleasure out of doing with your daughter.

Hmm. . .I think my biggies are. . .

I organize activities for my fellow moms. . .trips, parties, meetups. . .nothing fancy, I just act as the ball to make things happen. . .

Scrapbooking, expensive, but a means to an end. I've got awesome baby photo albums, and it is a social outing once per month to actually focus on getting pictures off the camera, printed and into albums.

Gardening. . .I'm a big fan of spending time weeding, making new flower beds in my yard, getting donations from friends and neighbors and sale shopping plants. . .in a few short years I've now got stuff to share and divide. I actually joined my local garden club recently. . .my neighbors and I also did a vegatable garden together the past two years. That helps feed into the cooking habit I have, helping to revive my grandmothers eggplant parm recipe and practice pesto from scratch. . .

Bookclub. . .I've been in a bookclub that rotates dinner around the DC area. We meet once per month, really are friends through books, not friends before. . .it is a nice grown up night out once per month, and keeps me reading interesting stuff outside my comfort zone.

Man. . .looking at this list. . .I such a MOM. . .how did that happen
