Was child prep for the test?

Thee are 2 good scores and 1 crappy SUBJECTIVE score and you ask if thee was test prep? People are crazy.

I think GBRS must be weighted more now than ever. Last year my son got in first round with

NNAT 118
CocAT 121
GBRS 9
WISC 150

This year my daughter was denied with

NNAT 123
CocAT 127
GBRS 11
WISC 130

Did you submit the WISC with the first round package? That is, did the committee know about your son's 150 WISC? Maybe that made more of an impression than your daughter's scores, which are more consistently clustered, but not "outstanding".

what are the sub scores on the wisc and cogat, I heard that play a role also.

The committee did see my son's 150 on the first round. It also saw my daughter's which should tell them she's in the top 2% and gifted enough to qualify for MENSA but not AAP which has a bunch of kids who aren't even gifted in it.

But there is a big difference between an IQ of 150 and and IQ of 130. I'm sure that played a part. There have been several posters on here with kids in the 132-135 range that didn't get in.

my good friends kid who is in second grade was in the pool with 145/126 and was not selected with the gbrs of 10. I think they had send out an appeal with the new wisc score of 133( I think his scores for verbal reasoning, fluid reasoning and processing speed are in 130's). I hope he gets in with the appeal.

It's weird that you know his scores.

None of your daughter's scores are above the 132/12 GBRS threshold. A 150 WISC trumps everything.

The 132 threshold is for CogAT and nnat, not wisc.

Sorry, GBRS at 9 is nearly impossible to overcome in my view. I had a kid there: 2E, other scores way high... denied. Other kid had 14 GBRS and average at best test scores ... in first round. Yes, I am jaded, but I had one truly gifted kid and one kid who was a hard worker and easy in class ... guess who got in. GBRS rules the day, at least for base school kids.

We were told by the psychologist who conducted our kids wisc exam that anything with the score of 132 and above ia a very good one. My kids score was 133. Not sure who is correct as I see lot of different views here on the forum.

First, a WISC of 130 or above should be good since 130 is 98'%. Second, people were rejected this year with WISCS as high as 135. I think this year is like no other. They aren't raising the standards because they still let in subpar NNATs and CogAts in 120s but they are rejecting gifted children with high WISCs. Good luck.

That is a very good score it MAY not get your child into AAP though.

Based on dcurban mom echo chamber. No one here knows if this year is differ t or not, may be but you’re bbbasing this on very limited data. Let see when the appeals arrive. Good luck all
