Daycare "graduation." Can I ignore this?

The dress code is because although most of the kids clothes are covered by the cap and gown, not all of them are. Many of the small graduation gowns show the top of the shirt around the neck and the feet below the knee for the taller half of the class (the smaller half of the class will show from mid-calf down). It looks cleaner when all are wearing white shirts above and black pants below. Many don't want a rainbow of colors around the necks and below the gowns.

The teachers are trying to avoid these situations:




OP--you don't need to buy anything new if you have long pants that are black and a white shirt. That will give the desired result.

Oh the horrors! My kid's preschool graduation will be ruined if pictures have such an amalgam of colors and pant lengths. The trauma may be so much that he never wants to graduate from anything again, leading him to drop out of school late in fourth grade. All because a few moms were too busy/cheap to heed the dress code.

Your kid's teachers are caring for your kids more waking hours a day than you are, and now you're quibbling over a pair of black pants for a special day (that's planned out in advance) for them, your kids, and ostensibly you?

Preschool and Kindergarten graduations are beyond stupid. I’m on team OP here. Caps and gowns? C’mon- we can all agree it’s silly.

Teacher here. We really don't care if you send your kid in black pants or not. But you're the one who sends their kid in pj's "because that's what he wanted to wear," in flip flops even though we asked you not to (and then gets pissed when he injures his toe), with toys that he won't keep in his cubby, therefore causing a major ruckus, etc etc etc. Even though we love your kid, we'll be glad to see the back of YOU.

Good luck in Kindergarten where there are even more requests.

Really? I would be mortified to show that graduation picture to friends and family. It is so sloppy and haphazard. It is something I would expect from some random daycare. I sent my DD to a proper preschool for a reason and I would like that to be reflected in the pictures that mark her culminating achievement in the school.
