Perhaps the deciding forces should visit Japan and other tight on space places and check out
their solution to the obvious transportation problems. It all has been done and solved in places. Why are we reinventing the wheel.. or a Beltway to be specific. |
Totally doable..

Please cite a single example of road widening that solved a congestion issue. Hint: you can't because it has never happened. Understand induced demand. The only way to improve mobility in the region is to improve mass transit. Single occupancy vehicles is one of the worst plagues to be cast on our built environment. |
| Hogan needs to go. |
| It’s a good idea. It would be a great idea if it becomes a toll road. It’s time to charge people for what they use. That area is a bottle neck. |
| This is the funnest thread every. Oh we should expand metro...think of all the opposition to the purple line. Oh should expand the road...more opposition. Oh everything should be free and we should not spend tax dollars on anything. Tolls are bad because they charge the people who use the road....etc etc etc. |

270 widening from Germantown up to Frederick I think is ok. The road should wider than 4-lanes in that section.
However I think widening the beltway is kind of dumb and probably really expensive especially around the curvy Bethesda/Kensington sections. I know it is controversial, but a better solution would be to extend the ICC and connect it to Rt. 28 in VA. Limit the exits through the agriculture reserve in MoCo and charge a variable toll. This will take care off of 495 and give us another crossing in case there is an emergency at the Americsn Legion bridge. |
Obligatory... |
Totally worth it! |
This is the dumbest statement ever. Both of the two roads that have been built in MoCo during the 25 years I have lived here have definitely improved my quality of life (ICC and Montrose Parkway). Only Maryland has the philosophy to make drivers (taxpayers) so miserable that they feel the even more miserable Metro is an option. |
I hate Montrose Parkway . There are a million traffic lights on that road and it takes forever to get anywhere on it. |
Did you drive on Montrose before? It was worse... |
Yes, we should all live in high density housing and take Metro everywhere tbh, I'm fine with that but good luck telling my committed suburbanite wife this ... |
| And it another two years, it will be as bad as it was before and voila, we will be back in the same spot. So do you want to go ahead and widen it again, or think of another solution? |
You sound like you are on the MoCo Planning Commission. Lots of us moved OUT of DC to MoCo for yards, less traffic, nice schools and libraries and parks. Instead, we were lectured about smart growth and now live within blocks of parking garages and high-rise condos. |
