Caps fans... I just can't do it any longer.

I love, love Wilson. He plays hard (and is HOT). But, he sometimes lacks self-control (drew some stupid penalties in the first round by scrapping unnecessarily). And, he's a bit of a hot head. I've watched the clip a few times now. I'm not entirely sure he doesn't deserve something for that hit. And it pains me to say it. I think he aimed to deliver a bit of extra pain -though not an injury- on the hit (and maybe just did it a bit too hard/high or didn't count on sandwiching the guy between him and Ovi, which is what happened). It's a close one.

It is a close one. It looks to me though, Dumoulin saw Ovi coming in for a hit. You can see him (Dumoulin) starts to turn a bit to his right for Ovi and lowed his head little. It happened so fast, I don't think he was fully aware of Wilson was right behind him at 100mph. I think Wilson was trying to hit him but Dumoulin's head position was lower than Wilson anticipated. But given his history, I won't be surprised if he gets one (but not two). I am still hoping for no suspension. Regardless, you know Pens will come out swinging tomorrow.

No Wilson suspension

After reviewing the hit, the NHL Department of Player Safety determined that the play did not warrant a fine or suspension.

Here is their reasoning via Greg Wyshynski of ESPN.com:

“[T]he NHL Department of Player Safety determined that Wilson’s contact with Dumoulin was not considered an illegal check to the head. It felt that contact with the head was unavoidable on the play, and Dumoulin bracing himself for the Ovechkin hit materially changed the position of his head prior to Wilson making contact with him.”

Good call.

Makes sense to hate them as a Caps fan, but it's kind of absurd to call them the dirtiest team in the league.

Seriously. Have you not heard of the Flyers?

The Flyers don’t dive, flop and whine like the Penguins.

Are the refs going to keep the penalty box full of Caps the entire game? And the fact that Crosby didn't get a penalty on that 3 on 2 is BULLSHIT.

At least they finally called a penalty on a Penguin for embellishing. Technically it was holding the stick but it was all because he was flopping. Also miraculously they didn't call Wilson for that big (but clean?) hit. Progress.

What a game! Wow... I feel like this is a different Caps this year. They have outplayed Pens (except 10 min in 3rd period of Game 1) first 3 games. Pens are drama queens... F'king Pens. I think Refs are on Pens' payroll.

Was that really a clean hit, though? He was eye-to-eye with the guy and his skates left the ice....

I think Joe B and Allan Mayes analyzed Wilson's hit correctly. They both braced for it. It was predominantly shoulder-to-shoulder. Wilson is 6'4", 220 lbs., and fast. He is traveling like a MAC truck. The force throw him into the bench.

It was a vicious hit, in a vicious game. But, mark my words, he'll be suspended. The Pens and Crosby are the Patriots/Brady of the NFL. Whiny, entitled pretty boys who bitch when anything doesn't go their way and, b/c they win and have a huge fan base with the league star, get the league gives in.

Where was the penalty for unsportsmanlike when Crosby spit on Kuzy last night?

Not when the initial contact was made. But, yes, I see after the contact.
