Sure, go ahead and tell yourself what you want to hear. Doesn't make it any truer, though. It may be common, but that doesn't make it a good idea. Sometimes parents have to be the ones to...parent.

Yes to the worry over the Explore page. My kids are mid-teens and what shows up there is borderline reportable. I wish it could be turned off.

Its easy to find a kid’s Finsta. On their phone, go to their Instagram profile page. Click their username at the top and a dropdown list shows up for any other accounts they use.
