What is this illness at Wilson?

And to add, this isn't an "at least" situation because I want my kid to not do drugs at school AND not kill themselves.

Xanax is a thing with young white rappers. See this article about the death of L'il Peep attributed to bad Xanax--Xanax laced with fentanyl and possibly an anti-depressant.

What is your basis for saying this? WJLA says Percoset. That said I recall that some attributed the death of L'il Peep late last year to bad Xanax.

All WJLA is getting the information from is interviewing some students after school.

So how do you know?

Xanax laced with fentanyl sounds way worse than Percoset.

Also, I doubt they were intentionally trying to overdose. One or two Percoset wouldn't lead to an overdose of all six, possibly seven, all at once. Fake Xanax, on the other hand, can be fatal. Actually makes more sense that it was bad Xanax rather than Percoset.

This is awful. Sorry to the affected families. This could happen at any school.

No, there are open air pharma markets in DC. This stuff is sold on the street just like any drug.

Don’t you think that a principal should have a bit more direct communication about what happened today?

8 kids od’ed on an opioid AT school! They were in every grade and not friends. That means there is a dealer AT school. Think she gets that? He email makes me thing she doesn’t.

Today’s message was about sick kids.

A follow up message re drugs on campus may make sense. But if this is the first you’ve heard about dealers at Wilson you need to talk to your kids more. Or get on Instagram or Snapchat etc.

Hardened and proud Wilson parent here. I am a bit flummoxed by the mystery- whether it is one kid, a real Xanax, a poison pill, a stolen Percocet— it needs some daylight. How is this a life lesson if it is hushed up? Anyone know the truth?

Does Wilson have any kind of character education or positive discipline program at all? Any? For years it has seemed to stand on the laurels of "we're only the school" in a liberal bastion, and we have zero influence over "kids being kids". Why on earth would school leadership not encourage children to be their best selves, including taking their health seriously. As DC moves towards full decriminalization, education about surviving the teenage years and growing up to be an honorable and productive adult who makes good choices for self and others becomes that much more important. Poor kids. We really refuse as a society and school to guide them.

As a pp stated, xanax and multiple students that aren't in same social group . I sincerely hope police will aggressively investigate who they got it from. 40,000+ people die a year from opiod overdoses and the problem is getting worse.

There may be some privacy issues involved, but this principal is continually challenged in making even basic public statements. “An incident”? Like, a single occurrence? Or, was it a series of incidents involving multiple students?

Don’t be an ass. Of course parents know this. Seems like the principal doesn’t. The kids knew at the time what happened and Ms. Martin decided to bury her head in the sand. An incident..... Became ill..... Proper medical officials...... why bother sending out an email like that?
