Making money as a SAHM

How do lawyers find doc review and other similar WFH jobs? I got a law degree, went to work in policy, but am now looking at leaving government for more time with my kids. Ideally I'd find something part time/flex time to do from home. (And no, part time with my office isn't an option. I've asked. They said I could telework full time - which is no small thing. They want to keep me as long as possible, but it needs to be full time).

My lawyer friend works from home PT for a former associate of hers from BigLaw who started his own small firm with a few other attorneys.

OP here. I've been trying to learn this as well. We have a friend who makes 6 figures trading options and futures part-time. I plan on paper trading (using a simulator rather than real money) for a few months until I get the hang of it.

Trading options is like saying you are doing gambling for a living. I mean dabble in it if you have cash to spare but expecting t to be a steady income
Source is folly.

OP here. I actually like this idea...a lot. How do you learn how to code? Are there online programs?

YouTube is your friend here. There are tons of coding videos on YouTube: Java, C#, C++ are the major languages for most applications, web has JavaScript, and databases has SWL Server for Microsoft, and PL/SQL is used in Oracle. www.dice.com is where the private sector software jobs are advertised. You will get a really good feel for what is popular just by seeing how many jobs each technology has.

Meant SQL server, also Artificial Intelligence is the future, and there's lots in YouTube about that.

I’ve been reading books and taking online courses on finances/investing/business, but still a little unclear on where to start. I’m not really interested in things like MLM and mommy blogs.

Any tips?

I earn money consulting as a SAHP. My background is in corporate strategic planning. I take on a minimum number of clients who are happy to flex to my limited availability 10am-2pm and 1-2 evenings after 6pm or a Saturday for retreats. This allows me to continue using my skill set and earn a little extra income for my family. I currently work the equivalent of 16 hours per week and earn ~$75k with clients.

Thank you, I will check this out!

So, this is technically true. But when a SAHP (someone responsible for child care during the hours a partner/spouse is at work) is looking for extra income, but ISN'T looking to "go back to work", it means he or she is looking for the type of work you can fit in around the baby's nap, the toddler's playgroup, or the preschooler's nursery school hours; or evenings, weekends when their partner can tap in... but be able to drop if their partner is on travel that week. It's a kind of flexibility that most jobs just don't have, which is why it is a lot different from just saying "I want to go back to work part time" (which usually implies you will be looking for some kind of part time child care."

OP, the simplest way to earn some extra money as a SAHP is to provide occasional child care for a child your own child's age.

I work for a healthcare company and work from home in IT/business. I love it! Perfect job for a mom, very flexible. When the kids were little I worked very part time from home in the healthcare/IT field to keep resume up to date and then went full time now that the kids are in school. I’m home to get kids off the bus, make dinner, play. I make 80k a year plus benefits. The very part time gig made me have no gap in my resume.

I’m an attorney and tax enthusiast who will be WFH seasonally as a tax expert for Intuit come fall-spring. It’s $25/hr+bonus so not a ton, but it covers the childcare, has a 401k, and is over in April so I can do summers with my kids. I’m really looking forward to it.

I searched for the words virtual and telework in job listings, along with my other keywords. I am in pharma, with a focus on clinical trials. I worked entirely from home, the closest office is three hours away in Princeton. It took about two months of searching.

Why such emphasis on this?? Who cares. She’s saying she’s a SAHM who WANTS to work.

I don't understand this either. Also, why can't someone be both? I work two days a week as a physical therapist and W-F I am a SAHM.

Because if you work from home, you should have childcare for your kids. It’s difficult to do both (often against work policy). Your situation is different.

Uh, no, lots of our kids go to public school. We don’t all have toddlers. I work 5-10 hours a week. I’m still very much a SAHM. Not sure why that bothers you so.

Oh dear god. Don't do MLM, please. All your friends will hate you.

On my mom's group, people regularly post part time work from home openings - usually in some sort of basic marketing or administrative capacity. Ask around.

You could also become a "girl friday" via TaskRabbit and run someone's errands for them.
