My Rothy's flats STINK, help!

Anonymous
Just for anyone stumbling across this thread a year later like i did... Rothy's updated their online care instructions and now include a step about sprinkling baking soda inside them overnight to deodorize. It's also worth washing them in cold water in the sink with a gentle detergent, just so you can really get in there and give them a thorough clean.

Lysol spray. And baby powder daily.

I wash my rothys insoles. No issues yet.

Lysol makes a laundry rise cycle add in that kills bacteria and smells. It comes in an unscented version too.

This happened to me too! Put baking soda on the inserts and main shoe and then put them out in the sun all day and wash them. Worked super well, but about to do it again because I wore them outside in the rain.

I thought the whole point of Rothys was that you could wash the smell out. Dang.

I wash them with oxyclean and then let them dry in the sun.

You can get replacement inserts which might help.

I would soak in dr Bronner’s before washing again.

I only wear Rothy sneakers and boots. My plantar faciatis can't take other shoes (except gym shoes with inserts for working out.

I machine wash my extra inserts all the time. Warm water wash and put them through the dryer. No issues at all with that. I wash the entire shoe in a bag every other month or so. Air dry those. I have pretty sweaty feet and this controls the stank.

I would just throw them away in the trash, and get new ones that are different from what you have. or just burn them

I most often get this with cheap Payless shoes or nonbreathable fabrics. If I spend more money I make sure I wear tiny socks. I would run them through w some oxyclean this time. I haven’t bought it but there is an ultraviolet light you can also buy that sanitizes (kills odor) shoes.

You need to use antiperspirant spray on your feet. I like the dove one. Wait 10 minutes, then wipe the residue with a dry cloth or towel. As a bonus, it also helps with blister prevention. They also make antiperspirant lotions at target and on Amazon.

I put them in the dishwasher
