My Rothy's flats STINK, help!

Anonymous
OP here - thank all! Will try the vinegar and bookleen. They're black, so I'm a little concerned about bleaching them, but will try diluted bleach on the liners next if the other suggestions don't work.

Love these flats, but concerned that it sounds like they may be probe to this issue because of the material? That's disappointing!

Put them in the freezer for a few days

I have the SAME issue! I have even reached out to customer support. They recommend baking soda and/or vinegar - once the vinegar dries, the smell disappears.
I soaked my shoes in hot water with baking soda and Castile soap for a couple of hours, then machine washed them with vinegar in the rinse. I let them dry completely and the smell was gone! However, it returned the first time I wore them again. I’m so frustrated - I LOVE these shoes, but the smell it terrible. You are not alone!

This is weird but I tried rubbing zinc cream (desitin) on my feet and wearing my shoes. They no longer smell bad! Zinc is antibacterial and it gets in the books and crannies of the shoes. Works for my Toms also. Definitely worth a shot before you chuck them

Is it the shoes themselves or the insoles? If just the insoles, you can buy replacements from their website. Although that doesn't help if it continues to happen.

I bought a few new insole pairs. They’re so cheap it’s NBD and completely resolved my smell issues.

Lysol laundry sanitizer will take care of it. Works with cold water.

OP here - just noticed this got bumped. I figured it out, you guys! They were trash anyways, so I soaked them overnight in oxiclean, washed them on hot, dried them (I don't think on hot), then soaked them completely in Biokleen Bac Out. It. Worked. And also didn't damage my shoes AT ALL. It's 6 months later and I'm wearing them right now actually. I make a point to dry them as soon as they get wet (take the insoles out and let them air dry) and wash them in the machine with oxiclean as soon as they start getting stinky again. It's keeping the odor under control and saved my shoes. A miracle!

Wash again with a little pinesol mixed in with the laundry detergent and some Borax

gurl, i don’t think people know what rothys are here so don’t know that you can literally wash them. i’ve used baking soda & borax powder. soak them in that & let them dry in a very dry, ventilated are.

This happened with my Toms. I sprinkled them with baking soda and left them to air outside in the sun and they were fine afterwards.

Y’all smell.

I think the insoles are what smell the most - and that's the part you aren't supposed to put in the wash, right? That's the problem. I hand washed mine and they still stink. I'm waiting for Amazon to deliver some of those charcoal insoles and am hoping those might just solve the problem.
