Can most people do a pull-up?

Nope. Can’t. 37 year old woman. Decent shape. My marine dh said he can train me to do one-3 in about 2 months of constant training.

I can do seven of them in a row. Maybe more if I haven't worked out that day.

The reason I know this is because a friend of mine once texted me, "how many pullups can you do? The requirement for female Marines is X number of pullups." We were passing by a playground, so I tried it. It's hard! But I lift weights and do yoga, hence my 7.

14:14 - oh, and I turn 46 this week.

I can't. My gym has a machine where you can do pullups and dips with less than your full body weight--if you have something like this to practice on I bet you can work up to it.

28F, I can do 17 unbroken and 7 with 25lb extra weight. I was a gymnast and now an olympic weightlifter. You definitely have to train the right muscles (and they don't get passively trained by most activities).

If you kip it makes it easier to do them, however, they are still hard and something you need to train for.
I know several women that can do them, we all do to cross fit and it is a skill you work on.

Are you a woman?

Yes I am light and strong. I think that combination helps. 5’7 and 130lbs. I discovered fitness as a 40 year old adult after being skinny fat my whole life

when I was in my late 30s I could do about 7, and I had strangers comment on it in the gym "Most women can't do those!" So I don't think that many women generally do them.

I'm also exactly your height, weight and age, and doing them again is my goal as well. I can almost kinda sorta do one. But I'd like to do more. Maybe get back to 7! In any case, it's a worthy goal, no reason to think you can't do it.

I'm 55 and I can. But I've worked out all my adult life, and lift regularly.

I'm pretty strong, exercise regularly - pretty fit in general.

I have never been able to do one, not even close.

The method I used involved rubber bands of varying thickness which are attached to the pullup bar, and you put your foot in them to help you do the pullup. The thicker rubber bands provide more help, and as you get stronger, you use thinner rubber bands and eventually dispense with them altogether.

Same here - that said after 9 months of much more serious strength training than ever before with a trainer and targeting those muscles...I've done one completely unassisted. Back to the band for help!
