Not really. There are and have always been female writers and artists. History is filled with them. Some are mentioned on this thread (mind you the title is confusing as at first I was thinking of artists as in painters and sculptors but people were chiming in with musicians but writers are artists too). So they aren't being ignored. If they aren't famous it's because they weren't that talented. Just like thousands of male artists. There are no "undiscovered" great female artists. I'm sure great talent languished hidden because the hand never picked up a paintbrush or banged away at a typewriter because they weren't encouraged to do so due to their gender. The Michangelos and Davids of the art world didn't become incredibly talented overnight but through a lifetime of serious devotion to their art (along with talent). As the saying goes, genius is 1% inspiration and 99% hard work. If a woman was never set down that path she wouldn't have had the opportunity to become a master artist. So there is no stash of amazing paintings or books by unknown female artists or writers or musicians hidden away in private collections or archives or dusty libraries waiting to be discovered as masterpieces.
