Typical test the the test antics with a big federal funds carrot bribe at the end. Have you seen the class schedule for a 1st or 3rd grader? two hours of math, then two hours of reading, lunch, two hours of english, 45 mins of rotational subject matter.

People hated pre 2.0 too. They have just started forgotten... People in Mass complain about their math curriculums and if they move here their kids take a bit to get used to our testing

It WAS NOT OBAMA who came up with CC. That is ridiculous. It was pushed by the governors of 45 states.

+1 yea, I'm not getting the "kids don't have to do computation" complaint. My kids, 4th and 7th grades, do computation in math. But, yes, they also have to explain the answer, but that seems to diminish as they get older. DC in Algebra doesn't have as much of that.

Cc2.0 prohoboted child computing with figures and toes. One has to draw. When some yound kids who haven't fully developed their fine motor motion and cannot draw well, they become frustrated and give up. Math is painful.

My C2.0 kid still used her fingers to count, in early elementary school. (I'm not sure about her toes, plus usually she was wearing socks and shoes at school.) Maybe her teacher didn't get the memo.

Common core is a set of standards. Curriculum 2.0 is how MCPS chooses to implement. There are many ways to implement it. There are tons of textbooks and workbooks that are used in other states. MCPS refuses to buy them and just does random stuff they make up. That is why our kids are behind. Pearsons actually has some good workbooks and textbooks out.
