Racism? Really?

(19:24 again) Oh, and the "systematic dismantling of our country"? Are you serious? Increased taxes and universal health care = the systematic dismantling of our country????? You slept just fine through the constitutional and civil rights violations of the Bush years but NOW you are disgusted????

We have watched while the government took over a private enterprise (automobile industry), entered on a huge nonstimulus program that will saddle our children with unpayable debt for generations and now this same President is trying to take over 20% of the US economy and attempt to force socialized medicine on us and yes that is the way it is going because private insurance will not ultimately be able to compete with a government system..not a level playing field. He is also employing a huge amount of "CZARs" who have too much power with no Congressional oversight. Interesting to note that the government makes a point of breaking up monopoly's but nothing is going to be done about this new medical system he is trying to shove down our throat. This is the tipping point of frustration and that has nothing to do with race but interesting to note that because someone showed too much passion the answer is "gotta be because the president is black"--I don't get that and will not get that. I am tired of it and so is much of the US..polls are even showing this.

Makes the same amount of sense to me. I am sure there are fringe unpatriotic and racist people on both sides. You can probably tell who they are by their unpatriotic and or racist words and actions. The vast majority are exercising their right to peaceful dissent. For that I would call them American heroes, since political participation is the goal--not apathy, right?

There is a big difference between a sign that says "No Blood for Oil" and one showing Obama dressed like a witch doctor. I don't agree that people holding signs showing Obama with a Hitler mustache are heroes, let alone American heroes.

Mark Williams, one of the leaders of the Tea Party movement has called Obama an "Indonesian Muslim turned welfare thug turned anointed." This is not the fringe, this is a leadership figure. I challenge you to find an unpatriotic statement by leader of the Bush opposition that even comes close. The difference between the anti-Obama crowd and those who were anti-Bush is that the anti-Bush people were embarrassed by those who went too far whereas the anti-Obama movement appoints the lunatics as leaders. When an individual entered a video comparing Bush to Hitler into a Move On contest, Move On was lambasted by a House resolution that was supported by all but 79 Democrats. Hillary Clinton, with a majority of Senate Dems, voted to condemn Move On in the Senate. Republicans, on the other hand, can't wait to cheer on those comparing Obama to Hitler. Have you heard one elected Republican condemn such comparisons?

Despicable. As were effigies of Bush as the devil etc. and pink shirt ladies throwing flour on Marines at recruiting stations in San Francisco. No, there is NO difference. There are idiots on both sides, some racists on both sides as well (there is such thing as reverse racism btw). Bad actions are bad actions. The tea party is a loose coalition of people--not an organized opposition with one strict voice or identity. That is probably what is so scary about it--that so many of the people who turned out were protesting for the first time, for exactly the reason the majority of their signs said--in one way or another they disagreed with this administration and Congress' implemented policies. BTW my black husband would have been down there too and dragged me down with him, had we had more advance warning. Since we do not belong to any 'group' with a 'leader', but agree with the idea of peaceful protest against some current policies, we saw it on the news like everyone else. There is nothing lockstep about this, including the race/"racism" of the people protesting, except dissatisfaction and dissent. Long live dissent.

The reality is that Wilson was frustrated and spoke out and I believe he would have spoke out no matter what color the president was because he has never been accused of being a racist before and most likely was speaking out about the systematic dismantling of our country and it is beyond frustrating to see Obama get up and just lawyer his way through how he goes about "change." I am also concerned that we will have a racial backlash in this country because a lot of white people are getting sick of the fact that any time you speak out about something that bothers you regarding President Obama..you are labeled a racist or you may have racist thoughts. Oh god whatever--I for one am disgusted with his policies but I am also disgusted with Congress and seems like there are more white guys there so I don't know what you would call me then. But the more I think about it the true racist seems to be Obama because he just jumped the gun on that issue in Boston before he knew the facts and through the white policeman under the bus.

Obviously we will never know what Wilson would have done if the exact same circumstances were replicated except that the President was a white man.

I did some reading about the history of altercations on the floor of the Senate.

It seems to me an unprecedented breach of propriety. In our nation's history, we've had contentious debates and hot topics before. I am not able to find an incident where a member of Congress called the President a liar, out loud and publicly, to his face. Even Bill Clinton, a PROVEN liar, was never so disrespected.

I'm as white as they come. I have worked in positions of authority where people of color did not like my decisions and really angered me by chalking up my actions to race. I know what it feels like to be unfairly accused. But I'm sorry, I just cannot imagine a white President being treated that way. To me, it's racism, clear and simple.

I totally agree it was a breach of propriety. I also thought the crowd singing 'na na na' as President Bush flew away from the inauguration was a breach of propriety. Mass racism? Or just the coarsening of our culture?

"Of course none of us can ever prove what was and is in the heart of Joe Wilson. That's true of every interaction between two people of whatever colors. "

True, but the Maureen Dowd description was not off the mark despite no doubt sounding like a smear. As hard as it may be for people in DC to believe, there are still plenty of places in SC where men of high standing, good education and power use the "n word" in polite company and think nothing of it. It is the main reason why my children will always think of SC as the place where the nice beach is but will never spend significant time there, and why DH (SC born and raised) looks at me like I've lost my mind when I suggest we move back there to be closer to his family.

that is so stupid. Joe Wilson could be a card carrying member of the KKK, but race has nothing to do with his dislike of govt run healthcare, given that he has likely been opposed to it (like all other conservatives) and other entitlement programs his entire adult life.

I think Obama is the most unqualified president in my lifetime, but the ONE thing I love about him is his race. What a great example to all those who use the victim label that variations of pigmentation is clearly not an obstacle to success, but that the key is education and hard work.

It's the subtext. I bet the entire value of the U.S. deficit that Joe Wilson would NOT have shouted You lied to a white male.

I think another beer summit is in order to better understand and resolve this Joe Wilson's issue. That is all it took to clear up the Grates/Crowley incident, right?

why do liberals see EVERYTHING as affected by race? I would bet everything that he would have shouted the same thing to a President Hillary, and honestly and truly find bringing race into this discussion as horribly offensive.

As a professional woman, this unprecedented level of disrespect would have smacked of sexism to me, just as it hints at racism with Obama.

The new Administration had to act to prevent a complete financial meltdown thanks to 8 years of poor management by their predecessors. What you call the systematic dismantling of our country I call cleaning up Bush's mess. The consequences are indeed painful but we have only the 51% of us who voted for Bush to blame.

Unfortunately your argument is laced with talking points of people who call president racist and carry swastikas. See this is your problem, until you start thinking for yourself, stop using keywords like CZAR and socialism, you have no more credibility then those who say that president is not natural born citizen. If you claim to be free of racist thinking, then demonstrate it with an original thought, not repeating what Glen Beck told you.
