Racism? Really?

What does "are these all in the midwest" mean?

I was wondering where all those awful signs were. One of them said Ohio.

Oh. Some people view mid-westerners as 'backwards' --another kind of bigotry no? Those signs as far as I can tell were cherry-picked. They are reflective of the people holding them. I find them despicable, as I find any display of awfulness anywhere. I am also not impressed by pro-choicers who protest with balloons and whistles and carnival gear either--I think they do a huge disservice to those who understand the somber and often deeply sad decision that 'choice' is and defend choice with a sense of propriety and respectful behavior. And no, I am not impressed with pro-lifers who employ over the top methods either. However, I am impressed by people who energetically and respectfully protest--and except for life/choice--I see no issue in having some tongue and cheek fun with it. Satire goes back to ancient times. If you look at any protest you will find some numbnuts like these racist sign holders, and an awful lot of considerate good people like you and me--perhaps with different views--who hauled their booties off the couch to exercise their legitimate right to political protest in a variety of ways. I hail the vast majority of the tea party protesters this past weekend as just such a diligent and awake citizenry.

For the poster(s) who said, basically, "Oh c'mon, how is this racism when people used to mock Bush?"

I think we have to admit that our prior two Presidents - Bush and Clinton - made it too easy to mock and deride them because of their huge, glaring flaws - Bush's apparent lack of intelligence, Clinton's voracious sexual appetite.

Obama's certainly not a perfect person but I fail to see what in his demeanor justifies the same level of mockery that might have been levelled at his two predecessors.

"Bush's apparent lack of intelligence". come on, and you expect people to think of you as impartial?

NP here. She did say apparent, didn't she? As opposed to those of us who would say he has a clear lack of intelligence! And what kettle are you calling black, pot? There isn't an impartial person on this thread, including you, so stop complaining!

BTW, I am grateful that the pp included Bill Clinton in the "presidential loser" category. Smart man, did some good things, did some bad things as president. But an embarrassment to our country and I'm glad he is out. He was only topped by the guy after him who waged war on the wrong country! If only Bush had played around with his female subordinates rather than faulty CIA intelligence! A bunch more people would be alive and the deficit would be smaller.

I don't think Bush has a lack of intelligence, I think he has a different world-view than his critics. Just like Churchill had to stand alone when the liberal elite in Britian wanted to surrender.

You are comparing the incomparable Winston Churchill to GWB????

OK, I am OUT of here.....

Why don't you address the point - Bush and Clinton gave people plenty of fodder for ugly personal jibes. How does Obama compare to The Fool and The Satyr? What foible of Obama's makes him equally "fair game"?

How about the overwhelming narcissim combined with incredible ignorance? Guy is a few years out from being a state senator, and other than writing a few books I am not sure what he has ever done that is successful. To me, it is the American Idol-ization of America, where it is all style over substance.

From the polling, it looks like people are figuring all this out very quickly.

On what evidence do you base this?

Sounds like most politicians in Congress!

Aren't you kind of undermining your own point? The vast majority of critique aimed at President Obama is aimed at his policies, not person--when people call him socialist it is because they truly fear his policies are...socialist. That is not a personality disorder, it is a political/economic stance that many Americans simply disagree with. The worst I've been tempted to call him is 'limousine liberal'--I call most rich democrats that; yes tongue in cheek, no not deeply hateful-- NOT "Idiot" or anything else of that nature.

Why don't YOU start defending his policies--i.e. if you don't think they are socialist, or you think they are socialist and approve, rather than his person????

This racism charge is SUCH the classic bait and switch on the part of the current administration's defenders (YOU.)

The problem with with this is that anyone who thinks Obama's policies are socialist either doesn't understand socialism or doesn't understand Obama's policies. We may as well be defending Obama's policies from Barney Frank's dining room table.

Also, when I hear the constant emphasis on Obama's middle name, questioning of his religion, and allegations about his birth certificate, I have a hard time ignoring the clear bigotry that underlies many of the attacks on him.
