| You dress preppily but WASPishness, which is really what the Handbook describes, is something you are either born with or not. |
Wasps and preps not the same. While many aspire to be preps no one in clear mind would aspire be wasp. Lol wasps have no fashion sense and no taste in foods. Non-wasp with WASPy in-laws. |
No I'm white and the question is really dumb. |
| Yes. But the question is why would anyone want to be a preppy tool?! |
Are you stupid? |

| Because a lot of minorities are trend jumpers in a way that a lot of white people are not, and because 'preppy' has been so prevalent in the last few years, definitely yes. |
| It looks so much better when its not expected why wouldn't you? However, what is a minority in America? Minorities are the majority now. |
| Of course they can. I know lots who are. They can't be WASPy, because they tend not to be W, AS or even P, but WASPy and preppy really aren't the same thing anymore. |
this is the first thing that popped into my mind when I read this inane post. |
|
Of course non-white individuals can be preppy. It all depends on the individual's personality.
My best friend in high school was a preppy--back when it was the original preppy--and she is Korean. It was a very classic look and it looked wonderful with her. I think it looks amazing when black men dress and style the preppy look. So attractive. |
No they are not but the lifestyle outlined in the Preppy Handbook is really WASP lifestyle. Just sayin’ - from someone whose schools and summer and vacation home locations appear in the book |
Oh, I'm familiar with the Handbook. I was in college when it came out and it influenced my generation. I had multiple copies of the book, and still have one. There are chapters devoted to dress (can you still even get the Bean Norwegian sweater?) which anyone can accomplish. And some minority groups have vacationed in approved places for years (Oak Bluffs for starters), attended the right schools and colleges and passed those traditions to their kids and grandkids. And there are plenty of white preps who are not WASPs. Catholics for one. |
