I am AA and was definitely into preppy style in high school. Penny loafers, Polo shirts and I had the preppy handbook. There were quite a few of us that dressed this way back in the 80s. Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger tapped into this phenomenon among AAs and it helped make them rich.
