My wife charges me to edit documents?

This is hilarious. Your wife is a keeper. Ask her if she prefers cash or check.

You better give her that $12. That’s at least two lattes.

I love this. It's one thing to occasionally ask her to review something for you, but your cousin? I bet you offered her services before even asking her.

I'd pay the full $45 (document fee + rush fee) and consider yourself extra lucky that she has a great sense of humor.

Tell your cousin that English classes would be a good idea. If he wants to do grad school in the U.S., he'll benefit from a stronger grasp of the language.

this is great. treating your wife like your personal or family secretary. What an @$$. let us guess, you just dump it all on her last minute after saying you'd take care of it. then you turn in a half-@$$ed last minute attempt at doing what you said you'd do. Nice.

Anonymous wrote:I received this email from my wife yesterday. I asked her to edit a CV for my cousin. He's applying to grad school in the US. I am not originally from the US. My wife says her labour is not free. She also said this about breastfeeding too but she did not ask me to pay her for that. We switched to forumula after a few months. Isn't this a bit cold? In the past, I have asked her to edit many of my PhD documents but she says it's better to hire someone who is a professional writer. I just wanted her to proofread the documents. She's a SAHM to one baby and says she's too busy.

Here is the email she sent me:

This is the document I revised. The content was very difficult to understand at times due to the issues with grammar. I did my best to rewrite the content for clarity and meaning. I also deleted a few sentences that didn't make sense. In the future, I would ask you to give me at least 1 week to make revisions. My rate for this document is $12. I gave you a special discount as a first time client. Going forward I will charge $25 for up to 1000 words. If you need the document edited within 24 hours there is another $20 charge. Thanks, and please recommend me to all your friends.

~Your loving wife

rate is usually 10 cents a word on apps, essays and papers!

She's cutting you a deal. That's a really great rate.

Your wife is not so subtly trying to tell you she's sick of being the copy-editor for you and your family. I don't think she actually means to charge you, she's just telling you that she's done with all the proofreading you've asked her to do.

If you are not a native English speaker, I am guessing you've asked her to do this quite a bit and she's sick of it.

(FWIW, DH and I both proofread sections of each other's PhD theses and frequently proofread other things for each other as well. So it's not like I think it's crazy for spouses to do this for each other...but I can also see it becoming too much.)

Your wife is my new (sh)ero!!!!!!!

I do not know her, but wish I did.

She does not suffer fools easy.

C’mon OP.
She has a baby to look after.
Why in heavens name would you even ASK her to proofread/edit a college essay??!
And for a cousin of yours, not hers.

She shouldn’t be editing anything.
Except maybe the time she spends w/you.

Dude you are a prick and your wife is amazing.

Ha ha ha! Foreigner OP, came to the US and married a white girl..

Now that he's married, no more BJs and has to pay her by the word. If you try to leave, she'll take all your money, teh house and the kids..

You're stuck buddy!

The wife's note is full of errors. Please don't encourage her to charge people for copy editing.

Cleaning up your relatives' garbled gibberish is a huge task, though, so give her lots of appreciation and love for it.

Op here: There were no bjs before marriage OR after marriage. In my culture most women do not become intimate until after marriage. I don't think bjs are typical. It's not something I talk about with friends so I don't know. My wife is gorgeous though ok am very happy. By nearly anyone’s standards of beauty, she’s simply beautiful. I've been trying to get her take off the rush charges but she won't bulge.
