How authorities SHOULD decide school or no school

Why the F are we not prepared for it? We get dangerous cold every winter. Sometimes it happens once, sometimes four times, but it always happens.
Yes, there are people with limited means who struggle to buy warm clothing, but if one of the richest regions on the planet can afford $10K or whatever spent per pupil, there should be a program to make $150 available for warm gear.
I get this is an ideal I'm talking about, and I'm not saying that OP is wrong.
I'm just saying that this yet another thing the wealthiest country on earth f-cking sucks at.

No, we don't. It happens frequently, but it doesn't happen every winter.

So kids are losing toes every year in the Midwest and New England?

No, because they are prepared for it.

And they have been closed this week too.

Some of them, but they are also colder than here. NYC public schools are open today, and they got 12 inches yesterday. School systems that are closed in DC are stupid.

How they SHOULD NOT decide:

1--Will parents be able to take the day off, find daycare, stand being around their kids?
2--What would they do in Kansas? Michigan? Alaska? Russia? Iceland?
3--What did people do 10 20 30 40 years ago?
3--Will DCUM parents whine and cry about it?

Let me guess, you either work for the school system or a stay at home mom that doesn't have to worry about working to pay the mortgage, car payments, etc?

Actually I'm a working mom who just doesn't agree with you that the world revolves around me and my particular life challenges.

I am not from New England or the mid-west and I can afford to take time off with no problem. I live in FCPS and I believe my kids should have gone to school. My older kid's class/teacher is already behind what they are supposed to be learning and my youngest loves school. I don't like for my kids to miss valuable school days if its not necessary.

LOL over you thinking that New England put themselves into debt by moving to DC. Obviously you didn't attend one of New England's fine colleges.

I'm a teacher and I agree with OP. Honestly, PP, you sound as though you don't take responsibility for your own children. If schools close suddenly, have back up daycare. You don't need Einstein's brain to figure that out either.

My kids are my responsibility. It's that simple. And when there are kids facing hardships in school, I try to help as much as possible, too, as not everyone is privileged. So I have pity - just not for the overly educated folks on this forum who complain about everything. That's entitlement, you do know . . .
