I have heard that, but I would not trust someone on the road to hell. (It was reported on Fox News, wasn't it?) 8) |
I was on the road to hell once. I saw a sign that said "Bill O'Reilly Memorial Highway". Sean Hannity was picking up trash as part of the Fox Adopt-A-Highway program. Ann Coulter was flashing some leg trying to hitch a ride. She was late for her date with Satan. |
You are making hell sound appealing here my friend. ![]() |
Don't get too excited. Ann Coulter flirts with anyone, but you'll only get past first base if you have a pitchfork and a tail. |
This thread has really gotten interesting in the last few posts. Is that what they mean about mighty oaks growing from Acorns? |
I suppose the San Diego ACORN worker offering to help smuggle 13 - 15 year old Salvadoran girls across the border at TJ to be enslaved in a brothel was just kidding too? And of course he really didn't want to know what the young lady charged for an entire weekend of sex?
Is it a vendetta to pursue a non-profit that receives significant government funding AND has employees in 5 cities in 4 states so far who offer to help anyone who walks through the door to evade taxes, enslave minors, allow the rape of minors, falsify loan application documents, and import illegal immigrants? Maybe some people believe that the above is wrong and don't want their tax dollars going that way? |
Maybe their name should be Mushroom Spore. |
It is hard to answer your questions because a true investigation has not been done. The videos being shown on Fox are heavily doctored. Who knows what really happened? I wouldn't be surprised if the film maker eventually claims the entire things was farce and satire and should not be treated as real news. That will be his defense in court and he will act shocked and surprised that Fox took it seriously. I believe it is possible that some ACORN employees acted in an unacceptable manner. I'd believe that about employees of any large organization. I have no issue with a proper investigation of ACORN and I'm as interested as the next person is seeing that government funds are are spent correctly. I am bothered by the clear double standard that is so obvious in regard to ACORN. This organization has been explicitly targeted by the right wing. For all the sound and fury and attention focused on the group, very little actual wrong-doing has been discovered. There is another truism about which we must be honest. Liberals will disagree with conservatives, but attempt to treat them with respect and tolerance. Hence, extreme efforts at bipartisanship such as that shown by Baucus with his health care plan. But, liberals have absolutely no patience for those more liberal than them. I can give example after example of this. As a result, ACORN can not only expect to be attacked by the right, but it can expect even more vicious attacks from it supposed allies on the left. Just as Move On found itself subject to Congressional votes of disapproval, ACORN is without friends. Editing later to commend this article that highlights the absurdity of the ACORN obsession: http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/2009/09/17/acorn_hysteria/index.html "ACORN has received a grand total of $53 million in federal funds over the last 15 years -- an average of $3.1 million per year. Meanwhile, not millions, not billions, but trillions of dollars of public funds have been, in the last year alone, transferred to or otherwise used for the benefit of Wall Street. Billions of dollars in American taxpayer money vanished into thin air, eaten by private contractors in Iraq and Afghanistan, led by Halliburton subsidiary KBR. All of those corporate interests employ armies of lobbyists and bottomless donor activities that ensure they dominate our legislative and regulatory processes, and to be extra certain, the revolving door between industry and government is more prolific than ever, with key corporate officials constantly ending up occupying the government positions with the most influence over those industries." |
This is hilarious:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/09/22/whoops-anti-acorn-bill-ro_n_294949.html The Republicans submitted an amendment to cut off all government contracts to ACORN. However, targeting a single group is unconstitutional and would get tossed out in court. Therefore, they broadened the language to prohibit government contracts to any organization that had been charged with violating a long list of laws (note, convictions weren't necessary, only being charged). Well, it turns out that this includes most of the military-industrial complex. It's basically what I proposed earlier in this thread, so it's cool with me if they want to do it. But, I predict this will not become law in its current state. |
Megan (Meaghan?) Kelly is doing a good, investigative piece on ACORN on Fox tonight. She is interviewing the founder--quite the little maverick. They have quite the splashy history. Never realized the depth or breadth. I am unclear on who they benefited. Seems like their most recent fiasco is scoring lots of people loans that are now being foreclosed on. Well, maybe that's not their MOST recent fiasco.... |
