Even worse!
"Pfizer agreed Wednesday to pay a total of $2.3 billion to settle allegations about the marketing of 13 drugs, including pain reliever Bextra." http://www.miamiherald.com/business/story/1216810.html Pfizer gets government contracts. Here is just one: http://www.governmentcontractswon.com/department/defense/pfizer_u_s_pharmaceuticals_001326495.asp?yr=08 This is very simple. In America, we treat everyone equally. If we are going to ban ACORN from government contracts, then every company or organization who violates the law should be banned from government contracts. I'm fine with that, but I"m not holding my breath for any Senate votes. Obviously, principles are not at stake here. |
How about this -
1) More responsibility and accountability by the Government (at all levels) in how it allocates and spends taxpayer money; 2) More responsibility and accountability for politicians who take "political contributions"; and 3) More responsibility and accountability by elected/government officials to know the tax code and pay their taxes. Seems to me to be a neutral statement as to political party. Anyone got any others? |

John McCain (while he has a lot of great qualities), is hardly a Republican. Did you notice not very many Republicans were motivated to get out the door for him in the Past election ![]() |
Well now you have hit on something, I guess. Republicans don't know who they are. Which type are you? The small government, fiscal conservative type or the low tax, high spend type? The socially conservative, morals imposing type? Libertarian? Interventionist Neocon or Isolationist? All of these have been part of the Republican party in the last 75 years. John McCain is a Republican because (a) he has an R by his name, and (b) there is no coherent Republicanism to use as a better guide. If you have one, tell your friends so that your party can find itself and start participating in a constructive way. |
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Soon, the whole country is going to be so non-partisan so knock the whole "join a side" crap off, it's boring and old. |
I'm fine with not being totally lockstep ![]() |
The activists responsible for the videos also visited other ACORN offices where staffers did not take the bait. In one case, they called the police. The organization clearly has real problems with staffing and training in some offices, but at this point I don't think condemnation should be wholesale. |
Jeff, do you know if employees/officials of the RNC/DNC have been convicted of crimes? Just curious - I know they don't receive gov't contracts... |
I don't know of specific cases, but I wouldn't be surprised. But, now that you made me think of it, members of the House of Representatives have been convicted of crimes. Maybe we should cut government funding to Congress? |
I'll sign that petition - we would be better off without them for sure! |
We should start a DCUM poll on how many more ACORN videos will be coming out. The lady from the land of fruits and nuts actually admitted killing her husband? This is better than the soaps... |
The police investigated the woman's claims and found that all her ex-husbands are alive and well. Her explanation is that she knew the filmmakers were playing with her, so she played along. These videos have been heavily doctored and don't show reality. As an earlier poster mentioned, ACORN employees actually called the police on the Fox people in one case. I bet that won't be shown. This brings me to a question. Is there any point at which you will begin not to trust Fox News? I have seen them selectively edit quotes so that the speaker ends up saying the exact opposite of what was originally said. I've seen the network misrepresent photos and videos. They have actively promoted partisan political events such as the Tea Party rallies and Glen Beck's 9/12 protest. Fox refused to show the recent State of the Union address (the first one they did not broadcast). Not that any other network is perfect, but Fox is far and away from a legitimate news organization. Effectively, it is nothing more than the propaganda wing of the Republican Party. So, how many times does the network need to reveal its true colors before you give up on it? |
I was pretty irate about Acorn's employees trying to help pimps and prostitutes. However, Jeff's last note has me rethinking it. At this point I have put my judgment of Acorn on hold and am irate at Fox for engaging in a vendetta and calling it news. |
Admitting killing a husband is pretty far out, but it was her choice to say it. Having watched the other video clips--hard to believe the other employees were 'just pretending' though. We'll see. Even ACORN founders have turned against it. Of course it is based on nice ideals. But isn't the road to hell paved with good intentions? This is an organization that is out of control. As to the person who got housing loans through ACORN/ there are - will be other not for profits providing that service. There is money in it. Don't for a minute believe there is zero self-interest in that not for profit world. |
