If you think that the Democratic tidal wave that is hitting this country as a result of the incredibly incompetent vile Presidency of Donald Trump is due to "felons being given a right to vote," you are dumber than he is.

A win by one vote, and you call this a “tidal wave?”
OK.

Bingo!

Sore losers.

Also, the Democrat was a woman who beat a male Republican. Those pink hats are starting to have an impact.

I think the Lt Gov breaks ties on the Senate-- they will have to do some sort of powershare in the House, but still denying the R's majority control of the House (while they have a one vote majority in the Senate) is huge.

You are correct, Lt. Gov. breaks ties in the Senate but there's no tie-breaking mechanism in the House. The parties will have to negotiate who will chair committees and who will be Speaker for the House, positions that usually go to the majority party. I believe Republicans hold a two-vote majority in the Senate (21-19), but since they won't be able to get anything through the House without Democrat support, they'll have to either engage in actual bipartisanship or they'll be stuck in two years of gridlock.

That's correct.T he Lieutenant Governor does NOThave the right to cast a tie-breaking vote on organizational matters when the General Assembly convenes next month.

What’s wrong with restoring the right to vote to people who have served their time?

I'd like to know the answer to this question, too. People have paid their fines, done their time. Why shouldn't they have their right to vote restored? If we believe these criminals are irredeemable, why aren't they still in jail?

And no, it isn't the "felons" who are swinging VA. It's all the rest of us! Farewell Old South and good riddance!!!

The only problem is that they're not going to vote Republican. If they did, Republicans would be falling all over themselves about how once people have paid their debt to society, we should allow them to fully engage in public life again to encourage them on the right path.

The GOP has actively supported ensuring felons have the right to bear arms. Funny how they want felons to have guns but not to vote.

In the current term, the GOP has a 32 vote lead in the Va. house of Delegates; next term, it's a flat out tie. It was a tidal wave before this seat flipped, but the tie makes things much more interesting for the next couple years.

You chose a president who WON with -3M votes and you have a audacity to discount a 1 vote win? She is 3M+1 vote win ahead of the trumpard you chose.

Well the big thing is Va is now a blue state. Makes winning the presidency a lot harder for what’s left of the Republican Party.

exactly. You obviously weren't paying much attention to say this wasn't a tidal wave this year in VA. A good night was going to be 5 or 6 seats flipped. To go from 66-34 to 50-50? That's HUGE.

to be fair, VA has gone Blue the past 3 Presidential elections. I think most people have put it pretty solidly in the D column for the electoral college.

Thank you, NoVA

At the state level. But at the gerrymandered level of the General Assembly, no.

I was pretty specific about saying presidential election/electoral college

I was also the one who posted about the big swing in seats and how it was indeed a wave. I am well aware of what a big deal this year was for the state government.
