Ed Sherran and Beyonce

I highly doubt it was Beyoncé that called Ed Sheeran up and begged to let her be on his song.

Probably not. Nevertheless song is worse off with her in it. In the end, fans don't want mangled version of the song. I am a fan, as are other people here. I noticed that by this afternoon many radio stations went back to playing just Ed Sheeran version. Sometimes less is more.

However even though I'm not a Beyoncé stan (and I like Ed Sheeran okay) I don't really understand why she agreed to re-do a gender swapped duet of a kind of lame song that's been out for months. It surprises me that she would be on board even though Perfect had crazy commercial success and so will the duet. Wonder how he convinced her. I know Beyoncé doesn't really get radio play anymore with her songs (why is that anyway?) so maybe that has something to do with it.

Beyonce has been stepping out of her comfort zone lately. She performed a country song not that long ago at the CMAs (? I think) and she did really well with it.

She has a good voice and I have no issue with her branching out a bit. Not everyone has that ability - she does.

I hear her all the time on 3 different songs on XM right now - Mi Gente, Perfect, and the one with Eminem. It's sort of strange how she's suddenly been added to songs that have been out for awhile.

She's the top paid female artist, above Taylor Swift, above Adele, above Katy Perry. Beyonce has decided that this is where she wants to put her energy now.

I'm always amazed when people say she's over rated. The girl can sing. And if she had branched out 10 years ago like she's starting to do now, she would have an even broader fan base. Branching out is going to be hard for her to pull off now in her mid 30's...or at least harder than it would have been in her mid 20's ...but it looks like she's doing it. Good for her.

She might be top paid, but it is clear that her days of major fame are over. And I mean this in terms of her fame, as a stand alone female artists. It seems like few years ago she was in her own stratosphere, and now she is just in atmosphere. Still incredibly good for her age, most female music artists are done before 40.

She is always going to be Beyonce. She is never going to be a sidelined star. Not with her voice. She'll get older like everyone else does, but age isn't going to take her talent and name away.

Nobody is saying she will not be, what she accomplished as it is, is outstanding. Plus she has three kids now, and had an album that was great this year. I suspect she will find another way to contribute to music. But, even Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston faded as their aged. I do not wish to include Madonna in this, as her voice was always atrocious. She can't sing without auto-tune, meaning she can't sing at all.

Whitney Houston had big, overwhelming personal problems and Mariah is Mariah. Beyonce is still gorgeous, influential, well known and talented. She isn't going anywhere. Her fan base is already huge.

Just giving credit where credit is do. I hate this tendency to minimize the accomplishments of powerful women and attribute their successes to men.

Who would you rather see?

If we wanted to stay with an African American singer:
Alicia Keys
Jennifer Hudson
Audra McDonald

Those three immediately come to mind, although I’m sure there are many others. If they were willing to go less famous, the lead singer of this accapella group is very talented: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wp35b8qic6k

oh please! Nothing to do with minimizing accomplishments. She sounds HORRIBLE. It is such a great song and she made it sound terrible. I actually think that his music is a bit more substantive. He likes to tell stories where her music is simple pop fluff backed by trashy videos.

Talia Martinez sings it beautifully.

Ed should pick unknown young singers to duet with. It would make him look cool and potentially launch new careers.

I would have loved any of these. Beyoncé is queenly. But I prefer any of these voices or Laura Mvula, Emeli Sande, or even this lady from the Abyssinian gospel choir--solo starts 3 minutes in: https://m.youtube.com/watch?list=RDa5zT9uc32Io¶ms=OALAAQE%253D&v=a5zT9uc32Io

I guess Ed f&8ked up by having Bey do this with him.

I know. This just blows my mind that people think that Beyonce was begging Ed to this song with him.

Don't get me wrong, I think that Ed's Speaking Out Loud video is a true masterpiece and that his songs are really nice. But Beyonce is the household hame, she's the one with a lifetime of industry connections. Of course Ed is the one who asked Beyonce to do this collaboration. Ed knows where his bread is buttered.

Ed Sheeran is already successful and friends with Taylor Swift so I don't think he is in need of Beyonce's connections. I agree that this one does not sound right -- her vocal gymnastics do not fit with his style.
