Another who doesn't think it's an issue. |
I used to drink 5 to 6 craft beers a week. Add to that maybe one other drink a week. Not completely consistently though.
Now I am down to more like 2 a week. Partly to save some $ and partly because I just find it hard to get to the beer store mid week (and I don't like to stock up) If I have less than less this I have some cravings, but that is in part for the joy of entering a new craft beer rating. When I entered a rating for a non alcoholic beer (from germany) it felt good - though not as quite as good as real beer. |
Same, OP. But I'm a 5'4" woman. I KNOW I need to cut back! |
You're healthy now, but we'll see how healthy your liver is in another 20 years. |
Every night? More nights of the week, than not? Then yes, you have a problem. |

Depends on the size of glasses. If you drink half a bottle every night, then yes, you are in stage 1 or 2. |
I don't know. Lemmy drank a bottle of Jack Daniels every day for 40 years and lived til he was 70. |
Half a bottle is 375 mL, which is two 6.25-ounce glasses. That isn't the 5 oz standard but it's way smaller than "a glass of wine" as poured in a bar or restaurant. Stage 1 or 2 of what? |
What does it take to get cirrhosis? Wouldn’t everyone in France and Italy and Spain have it if about 2 glasses per night may be a problem? This is an honest question. |
I was a 2 glasses of wine a night drinker. I was otherwise extremely healthy - Crossfit 5 times a week, don’t eat sugar, healthy diet. I also look great - 5’7 and 125lb, flat stomach etc. I never woke up with a hangover.
I used to justify that everyone needs one vice whether that is over eating, not exercising, bingeing on chocolate, spending too much time on Facebook etc. In the end I realised that I was just bored with it. I was drinking so frequently that I was barely feeling anything from those 2 drinks. I considered starting to drink half a glass more but then read about The Naked Mind on DCUM. It was great for me. It really made me realise that I don’t need those 2 glasses of wine to relax, take away stress, enjoy myself etc. I haven’t had a drink in a month and honestly don’t miss it. |
I also have trouble limiting my wine intake. I never drink other alcohol just wine. If I start drinking I will finish the bottle. I don’t drink very often bc of this. I guess you could say I have a binge drinking disorder. |
Cheers |
I don’t think you have to be “high risk of cirrhosis” level drinking to want to cut back on booze. This is why applying the alcoholic label can be so counterproductive. Like if your liver isn’t failing you don’t need to drink less? |
Ok. Back to the original question: What does it take? |
