This is an article from Penn’s newspaper. They call GTown one of their peers.

Interesting. Take Boston College out of Boston and it wouldn't be 32, either. Take GU out of DC and there's no way it'd be lower than #46 Villanova.

Wake Forest is in a crappy town and still ranked in the 20s. GU has a recent POTUS and top law, medical and grad schools. Undergrad b-school is top 10, I believe.

So, take GU out of DC and it's still probably a top 30 university.

Mentioning a school one time in the newspaper doesn't make it a real peer. A peer is a school that competes head-on for cross admits, faculty, has comparable prestige, departmental strength and resources.
Looks like they wanted to fill space in the article because they didn't have the Brown, Columbia and Cornell numbers yet and maybe Georgetown was the only other good school with a yield figure available at the time.

Isn’t connecting with the elite one of the benefits to go to ivies people often point out? Why does it become a negative at GTown?

Weak at STEM? Do you refer to graduate school or undergrad? GTown’s programs is no better or worse than those at elite liberal arts colleges that are highly regarded here. Majoring in science at undergrad at GTown will get you into places e.g. top medical schools and graduate schools.

Have to agree with above. This must be the most delusional statement I have read in a while on DCUM.

Actually GU's pre-med program is highly regarded. Don't know that I can say the same for it's STEM classes in general.

I was mainly referring to the bolded statement, i.e. that Georgetown competes with the non-HYP ivies.

It just seems played out.

Put it this way. I’d rather go there than, say, George Mason.

I can't help but laugh at Georgetown thinking that only Ivies/Ivy+ schools are their peers. Of its ten picks, only three also listed Georgetown. Meanwhile, Johns Hopkins had matches with 8/17 peers, UChicago 8/13, Cornell 7/10, Brown 11/17... Heck, Bowdoin came up with a whopping 98 schools for some reason and got back 31 matches (better than Georgetown's 30% rate).

Oh yeah, I see that now.

The whole 'Love Saxa' fiasco is not impressing me. I'm Catholic and yes I strongly believe that gay people should be able to marry and live any life they wish.
I know gay people who love each other and are married. Many have wonderful stable families with children. Teenagers who have probably never met a gay person much less get to know a couple well vehemently debating whether they should be able to marry or not just seems ludicrous and tremendously intellectually immature. It seems that they have shown up to school with deep seated hatred and prejudice.

Yes, perhaps that is the most conservative of Catholic viewpoints but it seems that they should be working to modernize these views and accept more types of people. It's quite obvious that the vast majority of Catholics don't subscribe to all that is taught? Birth control anyone? Sure, Love Saxa is anti birth control too but as they profess to be virgins not sure how much they understand there either (and hopefully that only affects themselves)

Anyway - this would not seem to be welcoming to 'all students' . It seems blatantly hostile to some and to everyone who knows and loves gay people.

Meh. I think that's just a single student group, but I don't object to religious institutions or groups sticking to their official policies. Plenty of non-religious schools for people with other priorities.
