Take a knee during Pledge of Allegiance in VA Elementary school?

Anonymous
Elementary? Little kids consider "please, be seated" a part of the pledge.

The pledge is creepy. I stopped saying it as soon as I learned I could stop. I told my kids they could choose. I feel like it's an unnecessary indoctrination for little kids.

No.

No. I'm a huge defender of free speech but this is totally inappropriate at any level of public school, much less elementary school. Keep your politics to yourself at work.

Then don't force people to listen to the anthem during work. It's only a song.

DP. I don't understand your point. Can you elaborate?

Sure. Pp is indicating that a teacher who kneels during the anthem is bringing their politics into the classroom. I'm suggesting that this wouldn't happen if the teacher wasn't forced to hear the song over the speaker system. Don't play the song and the teacher wouldn't be provided the opportunity to protest.

We're talking about the pledge. Not football. Elementary school.

And no, I would not support an elementary school teacher protesting the pledge in this manner.

My bad - words or a song, doesn't matter. My position is the same.

What, exactly, does kneeling during the Pledge indicate? Why are some people doing it? What's the point, especially if you're an American citizen?

If a kid thought of it on their own...yes

There is nothing more disgusting than adults pushing political issues on kids.

Kneeling is a sign of respect, unlike standing.

America has gotten very confused indeed.

THANK YOU.

If disrespecting the flag was the goal, it would have made more sense to turn his back to it while everyone else faced it, hand over heart. Still idiotic, but on fewer levels.

Friday night the kids at the high school said a prayer before the game. Over the PA system. Then the band played he anthem. Everyone stood.

God I love the South !

No. And I'd do everything possible to shame him/ her, in public.

You are a terrible person.

Yes, I absolutely would. Everyone has a right to protest at any point provided it's within the scope of the law, which this is.

I would only allow/support my child if they could adequately discuss why they were doing what they were. 'Because my friends are. Because the NFL players are." Would not cut it. The decision would have to be personal.

I think the principal would handle this issue before the community would need to.

Yep nothing like the South, still trying to impose their views on everyone else. Make sure everyone knows the Christian God is the right one through prayer. Can't be overtly racist any longer, but we can make sure non-Christians understand they are inferior in public still.

And these players are not trying to use the protest to impose their anti-police views on everyone else?

Absolutely not.

A teacher's private politics have no place in a classroom, especially not an elememtary classroom.

I would raise hell if an elementary teacher did this.

I haven't heard of any teacher doing this. Until we do everyone is debating a non-issue.
