1st graders were sent to fat camp? That seems really young. Do you think they got something out of it? |
Confidence I hope and I know they made friends that were going through the same issues as them. |
How was the food at the camp? |
Food wasn't bad. Everything was portioned breakfast there was yogurt, cereal, milk, bagels, cream cheese. Lunch/Dinner there was always an option of PB&J if you didn't like or want the main dish. There was soup/salad, spaghetti/meatballs for the,4th of July there was a BBQ corn on the cob, watermelon, burgers. Also there were snacks x2 a day it would sometimes be a fruit, popsicles or chips. Being a counselor and not having any restrictions I was able to have a larger portion than others also on my,nights off or days off I'd eat at a restaurant and have a cocktail. |
Were you fat when you worked there? |
Were the girls you worked with actually "fat" or were they more chubby like 10 to 20 lbs overweight? |
Already answered this: Anonymous wrote: Are you/were you overweight yourself? I was in college back then I was around 116...I did weigh in myself because I was curious my lowest was 106. Now I'm old FTM and I'm 120 with a little pooch |
Some of the young girls I worked with I thought they were just chubby but others yes they were defiantly overweight. |
This food doesn't sound that nutritious... was the camp nutritious approach more about portion control than choosing better substitutes? In a way I understand it. The food you mention is what it's more likely the kids would see in their homes/reach for in real life than say...kale chips. if they can learn how to navigate these real choices I guess that's a good thing. |
To me I think the camp was more so about portion control and making friends and knowing you're not the only one that is overweight. They really pushed on being a good friend and "there are no strangers.....just friends you haven't met" was posted everywhere on the camp. I agree some of the food choices were questionable. |
Did any of the campers try to send in good/snacks? |
I never came across any of MY campers sneaking food/snacks. Some girls would take a peanut butter packet from lunch/dinner and eat it on there way out of the lunch room but that's it. I had some dried fruit and the occasional candy bar in tucked away in my belongings....of course I would eat it in secret. |
How tall are you? |
Short |
Did you go back the next summer session? |
