odd texture in Chicken breasts recently.

I like the term “muscular” that PP used. I’ve noticed it too. It’s like you’re bursting a bubble as you bite in, and it has a thick, plastic-y texture. So gross.

I’ve noticed this too, but it’s always after it’s cooked. I even had it happen on an oven stuffed toaster. Threw the whole thing out.

I pretty much stick with thighs because of flavor.

Had a college stats class with an Ethiopian woman years ago and helped her with the material, in exchange she cooked DH and me an Ethiopian dinner. She said the first American chickens she saw frightened her, they looked like they had tumors (the fat deposits).

+1

I’m the PP who mentioned chicken thighs. They do taste so much better than breasts, and they’re more forgiving to cooks. I love cooking the whole chicken leg quarters too. And it all tends to be cheaper than chicken breasts, which is also great!

I too eat chicken overseas. Smaller and tastes so much better.

This is true for us too. Even my kids have noticed!

This thread has been a revelation. Look up woody breast on google and you can see what to look for and avoid when you’re buying.
