| We have gotten a lot of bad chicken lately. Sinewy is a good description. I have no fixes but woukd love to hear more on what brands people buy who do not have this problem. |
Not necessarily because I've come across this issue whilst braising chicken in stews. |
+1 kind of tough |

It's woody chicken breast, check it out online....the link above is not activating. Good luck, I'm just about done eating that nastyness. |

It is called woody chicken breast. It has nothing to do with preparation.

| Woody chicken is what's used to make all those chicken sausages, by the way. |
Same. I honestly don't buy chicken breast much anymore because it's a crapshoot whether you'll get hte woody ones. I also don't eat those chicken sausages, etc. because it's just the woody ones ground up which is why they have a weird texture. I'd rather just get good pork sausage. |
| I am so glad to hear that it is not just me. I can tell as soon as I handle the raw chicken when it is woody and nothing is going to help. Any advice on where to buy chicken that does not have this issue? Farmers markets? |
All the chicken from TJ’s is like this. I’ve gotten it at WF too, but typically the chicken at WF is ok for me. If I buy the Mary’s brand it’s ok. If I buy the 365 organic or 365 regular, it’s woody/tough |
| I also have a problem with the texture of chicken breasts. The only kind I like is air chilled. Harris Teeter has Smart Chicken, Giant carries their own brand and I believe WF has some, too. |
| So I just read that if your chicken breast has white, fat-colored striping on it then it is most definitely woody and had a poor quality life. (And it’s genetic in the chicken) |
| Ugh I have this issue too! We’ve thrown out so much food because the texture of the chicken was just so gross. I’ve had better luck with Smart Chicken from Harris Teeter but it’s not a 100% guarantee. Those multi-packs from Costco are OK more often than not too, IME. |
I never buy chicken if i see that white stuff throughout it. It’s even in organic chicken. I didn’t know I was right about that! |
| Just buy chicken thighs and be done with it. Americans are obsessed with white meat chicken, so the birds have been bred to grow these unnaturally massive chicken breasts. It’s no wonder issues are starting to occur. |
Yes, they say it’s in both organic and conventional chicken! At least we know what to look out for now.... |
