I've tried PSVue, Sling TV, and DirectTVNow.

DirectTVNow is, by far, the best! The interface is good, the offered channels are exceptional, the price is fantastic, and it's not as glitchy as the others.

+1

We have a Roku stick and subscribe to Hulu, Netflix and DirectTVNow. My only gripe is that PBS does not live stream on any platform I know of. But those three cover all our bases and no more rental fees and I pay less than half of what I was paying for cable. And my kids (teenagers) can watch movies/shows on Netflix and Hulu through Xbox Live in the playroom.

Question - why do you subscribe to Hulu and DirectTVNow? I'm no the OP but i am also ready to cut the cord and researching my options. There is so much to figure out and this thread has been very helpful.

I'm the P-PP.

DirectTVNow gives you live TV. Hulu doesn't. (Hulu Live TV--not Hulu--would be comparable to DirectTVNow.)

Got it, I think. lol But doesent Hulu offer you channels (the same channels???) you get with DirecTVNow?

I'm this close to ordering DirecTVNow, just finishing figuring out the logistics of it all. I have Netflix and Amazon Prime, do I need Hulu or am I covered between those three?

What does everyone without cable do for internet access? We're ready to drop the Fios, and I'd love to switch to something like RCN, but DH is worried about the reliability. Do you all still have Fios/Comcast for internet or do you have a smaller provider?

Dropping cable and them subscribing to a bunch of things that basically equal cable is more like switching the cord than cutting it.....but whatever, it is cheaper I am sure.

We are not big TV watchers so we just have Netflix (and Amazon Prime but we very rarely use that). For the little TV I do watch, I just switched from NatGeo to BBC shows on Netflix. They are much better anyway.

For the occasional game my DH wants to watch, he uses it as an excuse to go hang out with friends -- either at a sports bar or with his pal with a giant TV in the basement. He brings the beer so it works for both of them I guess.

The problem seems to be that Verizon 'owns' certain areas, there are no other competitors other than Cox And dish type tv.

If you jailbreak the Firestick, you can watch everything on TV around the world, but navigation is not easy.

Stupid question - If we did Roku with DirectTV, we need a Roku for each of the tvs in the house, right?

Yes, unless you have a smart TV that already has the DirectTVNow app on it, or another device like a DVD player.

I have one smart TV but it's an older one that does not have the app. DirectTV now has a special right now where you get a free Roku when you sign up for 2 months. I'm gong to do that and us the Roku for the smart TV. I have another TV in the kitchen that I'll use the amazon firestick for. Our 3rd TV already has a Roku attached to it.

I have a friend that has a broken firestick. She said the only downside is that stuff is not there the day it comes out, and at first the quality is not good but as time goes on there will be better quality versions available. Oh and I think only sports is live streaming.
