I'm the pp who knew after date three. Our first date was just over two years ago. |
Match.com has (or used to) have the biggest pool of profiles, and it really is a numbers game, so I think that's why it's the best site. I tried the niche sites but ultimately found Match to be best, if you know how to filter out the sex-starved, the crazies, the narcissists, and the flakes, without taking any of it personally. My husband had a witty and thoughtful profile, nice picture, and I liked him after the first date. It took me a couple of months to get seriously interested, in part because he was painfully shy when it came to initiating physical contact and I was questioning his interest. Finally I kissed him good night after date number, I dunno, 10?, and the rest is history. Now we laugh about the whole thing.
Honestly it's just like meeting someone at the bar, except you get to sit in your pyjamas and filter out the likely time wasters. You still have to meet and talk to the people IRL to figure out what they are like. (Shocking, I know.) |
I think I went out with a total of 13 guys from Match.com years ago. The first 10 had what seemed like great profiles to me but no connection on the date. In many cases, profiles were totally inaccurate. No. 11 had a really witty profile but I was not attracted to his looks. Went out with him and we ended up dating for months and I did end up attracted to him, right from the first date. After him, did not do Match for a while and when I did, I was more selective -- couldn't go through 10 more bad dates. Went out with one guy, liked him enough for a second date but he did not ask and I was not particularly disappointed. Then met my husband. I thought he was hot but the profile otherwise did not do much for me. We met for coffee and talked for HOURS. I knew from that day that it was something different. Engaged a year later, married a year after that, and now married 10 years and still very happy. |
This reminds me of a conversation my husband overheard I the car taking the kids to camp the other day.
