In English it rhymes with Ranch. Depending on the regional pronounciation it can have a pinched nasal sound.

I actually love it! I had it on my list but we ended up with another name to honor a deceased relative. I'm all for "old lady" and "old man" names though. If you like it and your husband can get on board then go for it.

Fwiw I know lots of babies/kids with old fashioned names (Sidney, Stanley, Mel, Ida etc.) and they would probably get horrible reviews on DCUM but they are adorable kids and their names suit them!

I think it would be an OK first name but it would be a fantastic middle name.

What was Aunt Blanche's middle name?

Blanche just sounds rather bland. It means white so there's no redeeming qualities.

What was your aunt's middle name? Maybe you could use that?

For the period 1900-2017, Blanche's peak year was 1902. The top 20 names in 1902 were Mary, Helen, Anna, Margaret, Ruth, Elizabeth, Florence, Marie, Ethel, Alice, Lillian, Gladys, Edna, Mildred, Dorothy, Annie, Grace, Emma, Bessie, Rose.

I don't understand how somebody could think that Bianca is lovely but Blanche is horrible.

Dorothy, Sophia or Rose are all much better than Blanche.
