How much is a country club membership? Just asking because I'm nosy and always wondered this.

On a monthly basis we pay $850 a month including food minimums plus whatever we spend. Normal month in the offseason is around $900-1100 and in the summer it's closer to $1800 to 2K for 3-4 months when we are using the pool and hanging out a lot. That normally means we are eating out there a lot so we are just moving money from one column to another.

Holy crap, that makes my horse habit look cheap!

Way upthread someone asked if horseback riding is exercise. Definitely. My Apple Watch tracks exercise by heart rate and it is similar to jogging a 9 minute mile for me (as long as I am trotting, cantering and jumping). Walking is not much exercise but I try to do it in ways that build my core (2 point for the horsey!)

What exactly is the point of correlating gym costs with income?

The only published study I found on calories burned horseback riding listed it at 200 calories for 45 min at a canter...nowhere near actual cardio. But yes, you do burn some calories because of the core muscles being used for balance.

I lay $165 for my monthly unlimited membership at PB, and have worked up to going 4x a week(5x for march madness!) Do you guys do any additional cardio? I found the only thing platform did for me was tweak my damn knee so I cut that out, but it's hard to work in additional cardio when I want to get my money's worth! Also, the new free on demand PB is awesome.

DH - personal trainer once a week and unlimited Flywheel - I think he's around $400 a month, probably a little more.
Me - Classpass supplemented with out of pocket for Flywheel and Soul Cycle, so somewhere in the $200 range.

We also belong as a family to a little pool/gym (the JCC but not in DC) and the university gym, which are another $150 a month. So all in...probably $750 a month. Sounds really high now that I am typing it out! Bu we actually do use all of them...

What's the difference between Flywheel and Soul Cycle? I Did Soul Cycle once and loved it.

I pay $240/mo for equinox in NYC. The cost makes me feel guilty enough that I go pretty regularly and bring DD to childwatch. Their cafe/lounge area is awesome so I get to hang out and read the paper alone after working out as well.

It might be from a heart rate standpoint but work=force x distance. If your feet aren't on the ground, you may be getting some core workout but it's not the caloric equivalent of a 9 minute mile.
