I wish we would have more health crap. I wish my loved one would feel comfortable enough to call my ass out, when I wasn't being disciplined enough myself. Vanity, health, whatever- it's all a health issue at the end of the day. |
But it wasn't about health, it was about vanity. |

I'm OK if it's about vanity. I wish my wife would just tell me that she wants me to look better. I also wish that I could tell her the same.
I have been busting my butt working out and eating better for more than a year and have lost 40lbs and I think she has gained the 40 that I lost, at least it feels that way. It stinks to not be in the same place on this issue. I want recapture a little youth and feel healthier, more athletic and skinny and I would prefer that she try to do the same but I just don't see it happening. |
No. Do some squats, lunges, incline chest press, etc. |

My spouse and kids are all super fit and thin -- that's a strong incentive for me to lose the bit of belly that accumulated over the winter and spring....
As for OP, don't buy the DH's go-to fat foods at Safeway -- whether it's cookies, peanuts, cheese, ice cream, etc. Don't buy it, at all. In any case, he needs your support now, having been laid off -- criticizing him now about weight is a bad idea! |

Eeek! That's yucky!
Makes me wonder both of their ages. |
No criticizing him now is about HEALTH and it is absolutely appropriate to criticize him about his belly. |
| Tell him exactly how you would want to be told that you are getting a belly and could you please be more stringent with your diet and exercise. |
I'll bet my husband feels the same way about me. I joined weight watchers to lose 30 pounds and I've been trying to exercise more. But, I have a 2 year old and a 4 year old, I work full time, and I'm tired. He has a flexible (freelance) work schedule and he is a natural at mindful eating and fitness. He looks great! I really miss feeling even slightly fit. |
+1 The "fitness" industry has fucked this country and is now infecting the rest of the world. They have us obsessed with aesthetics and weight loss. If we all diverted our focus to performance metrics we would be a lot happier, healthier and more attractive. My DW will never get back to the size she was before having 3 kids. But since then she has learned how to exercise and eat to stay strong and healthy. While she is by no means thin, she is much stronger and more confident. Thank goodness she ignores the infomercials, magazines and mainstream "fitness" industry pundits. I find her confidence so damn sexy and am thrilled with what she has become. Ugh! Why the fuck I type this? Now I'll spend my day trying to get the kids out of the house just to get her alone for a few delightful minutes.

| What if it was the other way around???? Would you be pissed or offended??? |

I was thinking the same thing! Despite several years of relatively demanding triathlon workouts and marathon training (at respectable paces), my belly ain't going away. We don't have any junk food in the house but the training does make me super hungry. We tend to eat pretty sensibly at home, but date night is probably an extra 2000 calories every week. Can I get away with taking DS to Sweetgreen instead of Fiola Mare? I could use the savings to buy a new bike, too! |
