Alexander and Ella Clooney

Just out of curiousity, did you grow up/go to school someplace where there were a lot of people of Middle Eastern descent? I've always lived in fairly diverse areas but somehow never encountered a single Amal!

In any case, I'm always a bit pleasantly suprised when a celebrity gives his or her kid a "real" name like Ella or Alexander (or Amal or Lourdes, for that matter) as opposed to something "creative" like Moon Unit or Audio Science.

If Amal doesn't like her (very common Lebanese) name, it probably has more to do with the taunting it being so close to the word "anal" ( my phone actually keeps trying to change it to that) probably caused her as a tween & teen than it does anything else. I wouldn't be suprised if she, like my friend Virginia, spent a lot more time than most parents do ensuring that the names she chose for her kids pass what Virginia & her DH called the "lazy schoolyard bully test".

Have you seen any pictures of her taken with the last 2-3 months? The most recent ones I've seen were from maybe late February/early March so I just assumed she was a "late pregnancy bloomer" like me. I'm very thin (& shorter than her) & my twins were born at 37 weeks weighing a combined 9lbs 14 oz (just over & just under 5 lbs each) but I didn't even look noticeably pregnant with them until I was about 5 months along (it was closer to 6 months with my 7lb 12oz singleton) & probably didn't have any more of a bump than Amal does in the pics I'm referring to until about 2 months before they were born.

Amal is actually an extremely common name in the Middle East and means "hope" in Arabic.

Remember, kids, white people are not the only people!

Many people from the Middle East check off the white box. just saying

Names are cultural, not racial.

I'm Jewish and grew up in Mo Co. Knew one Amal in 9th grade, one lives on my street, and knew one in law school.

I saw a headline about this that read "Noted human rights attorney Amal Clooney gave birth to twins"

I love whoever wrote that!

This is silly. I'm tall and thin and didn't even look like I was pregnant until about 6 mos., if then. My three kids were all between 7-8 lbs. Tall and skinny just ensures there's more room for the babies inside, rather than jutting out noticeably.

Many sites are going with the ridiculous, try-hard headlines that make sure to mention Amal's career with only vague reference to George. If we all cared about the life happenings of attorneys, we'd be reading Above the Law instead of entertainment sites. Yes, Amal's career is more meaningful than George's. But her career isn't why you're interested in the happenings of her uterus.

Lovely names for their kids.

I'm surprised they did not give them middle eastern names.

My friend is irate about their name choices because she had twins two months ago and those are her twins names. And what cracks me up even more, she gave birth two weeks before Princess Kate and chose Charlotte as her first daughter's name.

She's legit ranting on Facebook and it has made my Tuesday evening/Wednesday morning so much more entertaining!
