Lafayette Principal

OP here! Looks like there's a lot of drama surrounding Lafayette, the principal, and the parents. Not something we want to willingly sign up for!
The sad thing is, we could have been big supporters and contributors to the HSA.

Go to the playground and a Lafayette event. Talk to real parents - not just DCUM.

LOL, with that kind of attitude, you would fit right in!

It would be helpful to hear what the legitimate real problems are so that they can be recognized and evaluated.

My guess is that this will happen in time. But it will likely be a slow process at best. In the meantime, we can all continue to be supportive of our kids, our friends and fellow parents, the teachers and staff, and look for open dialog on both the things that are working right and the things that are not. Be an active participant, ask questions and be informed, and recognize the good work when you see it happening.

Redistricting has enabled our family to experience both schools. Liked Murch quite a bit but really love Lafayette.

OP, how old are your kids? There is a cadre of families at Lafayette who were there under Mrs. Main and have a hard time accepting the changes that came about when she left. I think that in a few years, the culture will shift as more people understand Dr B and fewer people expect to be the same as it always was.

It's also the difference between testing grades and non-testing grades. I was no fan of Ms. Main and I am happy with what's going on in my younger child's classroom, but the emphasis on testing and the ignoring of anything that's not on the test in my older child's classroom is terrible.

You can thank DCPS and sending your kids to public school for that.

The PARCC testing is non-negotiable, but it's Dr. B's choice to have the curriculum focus exclusively on material on the test. Based on demographics, Lafayette's test scores are going to be fine regardless, so more science wouldn't hurt anything.

It is interesting how every single happy parent posting here either has a kid in Kindergarden or is in their first year at the school.

And the poster who threatened to withhold their SGA contributions should really think about private school. Nobody cares whether you give or not in public and your decision not to give will not have any influence over the school's operations. You need to go private for that to happen.

We have been at Lafayette for 6 years and are very happy.

Dr. Broquard, is an exemplary leader. Leave her alone so that she can do great things for all of the students.

This is the WRONG place for this discussion. Meet with your Principal, schedule something!
