I'm the PP who said that I don't want MCPS to e-mail me about every incident at any of the 200 MCPS schools. What would I do with this information?

I'd ask if they heard about it, are kids talking about it, do they know the accused in any way, do they ever feel uncomfortable about teachers or coaches or staff or kids at school and do they know they can always come and talk to me about anything..... The answers surprise me.

When the incident happened at Rockville, I asked my DD if she knew any girls at Rockville and how they were feeling. Turns out lots of girls feel creeped out and unsafe at school (of course), and the Rockville incident reminds them all how vulnerable they are no matter where they go to school. Asking also opened up a conversation about peer on peer date rape at our school. DD has friends who have been sexually assaulted, and are struggling emotionally. And then there's the impact of seeing a peer come forward with accusations of rape and basically nothing happening to the accused and the victim being painted as a slut. So, even though the Rockville incident didn't happen at our school, it has a huge impact on DD. Turns out there is a HS grapevine, and DD also knows about other assaults and how they were handled at other schools. All total during HS, DD had 2 teacher sexual incidents at her school, knows of 2 rapes at least, knows about at least 2 other incidents at other schools plus the Rockville thing.

I'm glad I asked. I had no idea how much DD was exposed to.

How awful.
And this in one of the richest counties in the world. Where does the money go if it's not to protect the students?
They shouldn't be getting beaten up or sexually assaulted st school. How can any of these county council politicians or high level administrators even accept a salary while young children are being abused?
Seems like all of the county money is going to developers and whoever else high level people are buddies with. Time to clean house .

Maybe there should be a class action lawsuit filed by the girls of the county because they have to go to school - and even after school activities - in a hostile environment.

They can't give up their salarys or they would be able to afford to live in the type of places where this type of stuff doesn't happen. Make no mistake, this stuff happens due to administrative neglect and it always seams to happen in he same types of areas that consistently are neglected. Do you think in any scenario Churchill hires a 21 year old Latino man for security? Or do they pay a little more and get highly supervised elder professionals?

The risks are still there at high wealth schools. BCC has had 2 sexual predators in the last 4 years - one a special ed teacher, and one a gen ed teacher who was taking upskirt photos. HooverMS had a peeping tom janitor. Whitman had a football coach who videotaped his exchange student taking a shower and WJ had a crew coach who was having sex with a team member.

Don't delude yourself into thinking this only happens in poor neighboorhoods.

This 14 years loved the attention she was getting that is why she continued. She is very naive and he took advantage of her.. This is why 14 year olds do not need cell phones!!!

Where in the article did you read that a cell phone lead to this situation?

Detectives interviewed the victim who told investigators that she and Lievano communicated via text messages and started dating on March 29, 2017. During that time, Lievano engaged in inappropriate sexual contact with the victim at her home and at his home.

Because not having cell phone would easily solve that...

well having a cell phone provided easy access for her to continue texting him back and forth..

technology makes it easy for any student male or female to search their teachers or staff..

the school system needs to talk to students regarding inappropriate behavior it is imperative parents start speaking out about these predators..

Sure, but the same would have happened over email or google voice or something else. The cell phone isn't the problem.

It's the age of the person you're concerned about? Right? I'm not understanding how it would be relevant whether or not a security guard at Churchill (or anywhere else) is Latino.

If this got the same reaction as the graffiti at Westland Smith would be out of a job but this is a black mark on the school system, not something against a race, religion or sexual orientation.

Parents, we need to do better. We need to figure out what we can do to stop these cases. Our girls have a right to be educated.

Any suggestions?

Most of these kids have parents that absolutely do not care. This a kid whose parents obviously don't even look on her phone to make sure things are OK.

Yes, the schools are liable but so are parents and many people have gotten away from that. This new thought that kids can't play outside, be with friends, can't go anywhere unless they have a phone - like phones make things safer for kids? Please. Kids do not need phones, social media, etc... They need to be out in the real world, head out of a phone and learn some common sense, street smarts, autonomy, and guidance. They need parents that are there for them. That help them, teach them and nurture them. That treat them like preteens and teens, which are still KIDS. They are kids that are being ignored. That are looking for attention. The school can't give them that attention. They need parental and human attention and they aren't receiving it.

Yeah. Talk to your girls and provide them with some career goals and self-esteem so that they do not seek validation by having sex with these pervs. There is something messed up with the girls and their families too in all of these situations. I am not seeing any high achieving girls from functional families indulging in these kinds of behavior.

???? The news reports do not include information about the girls' grades, extracurricular activities, or family structure and dynamics. (Nor should they.) So I can't imagine what you're basing this conclusion on. Please explain?
