Do we know if the school has a PTO? We are in-bound for Truesdell and will likely send our son there in 2019! |
If it doesn't have one, why not start one? |
The school's DCPS school profile page says it does. They don't have a website, but they do have a Facebook page and a Twitter account. https://www.facebook.com/truesdellec/ |
Do you know how the before or after care is and the costs for it? |
They don't have before care. They do have aftercare, but as I mentioned in my previous response (8:48), we don't use it, so unfortunately I don't have any insight. |
| The teachers are passionate, but there is a high turnover of teachers beyond the PreK years. In the long run, this has hurt the school more than helped it. The school desperately needs an active PTO. |
They do not have an active PTO. Be prepared for opposition. There is strength in parent voice and numbers. |
There is no before care, but after care is offered for free. |
The district will likely phase out the middle school by 2019. |
Who would oppose it? The principal seems pretty open to parents. |
Aftercare is not free anymore as of 2016/17. It's cheap though. |
Yes, who would oppose it? I've been told they'd love for someone to start a PTO. The principal is seriously great. |
On your next school visit, talk to some of the teachers. The majority of the staff is comprised of young inexperienced teachers. Teachers who fall in line, and who are afraid to speak up. Also, notice the turnover of teachers. |
In the last 5 years, they have existed without a PTO. It's a great idea, but expect some oppositon from a school which has run with autonomy. |
I'm really curious what your statements are based on. Have you had a kid at the school? Have you worked there? |
