Why do restaurants use raw red onions?

NP here, and I'm glad I'm not the only one who is opposed to red onions everywhere. In my case, I have an intolerance to them that is quite unpleasant, so I don't want them cooked into anything either. At least if they're raw, I can easily remove them.

White onions are great though, I just brush my teeth after so that I don't have stanky onion breath all day.

I actually enjoy raw white onions on a chili dog or something like that. But raw RED onions on a sandwich or salad is repulsive. They're level 10 overpowering and you taste them all day. Panera Bread puts them on EVERYTHING!

Just ask for your food without them.

Because they're delicious.

How odd.....I would have thought red onions were milder than yellow? I love cooking with them but can't stand them raw.

Another raw onion hater here. I detest green peppers too, and I've found those two dislikes sometimes go together. Red peppers are fine (in moderation) though.

I've always wondered if people who like raw onion could possibly be tasting the same thing as me.
