Agree, but budget might be tough. |

OP, check out the distance from DC to Damascus, Clarksburg and Poolesville. These are very far away from DC in the exurbs.
I would say Woodmoor in Silver Spring, Takoma Park, and Kensington - which are all much closer to DC. If you want are real small town like the above listed, your husband will spend a long time commuting everyday. |
2 hours each way to Damascus, Clarksburg and Poolesville, crummy public schools too |
What about the non-town part of Kensington? I moved here 15 years ago when DD was a baby and there were far fewer kids. Now kids, bikes and strollers abound. Depending where you live in Kensington Heights you can walk pretty easily to Kensington's cute, historic old town area and train station $500,000 to $700,000 gets you a pretty good house here, just not new construction. |
| Potomac Woods, Stratton, and Falls Ridge, and Orchard Ridge... |
poolesville crummy ?
|
Thanks!! |
Thanks so much. Ill check these out! |
Agree w/this. TOK is totally small-town feel - a sweet downtown complete with old-timey gas station and train station (MARC), plus annual parades for July 4th and other holidays that are fun. We live nearby and our kids have done sports teams with families from Parkwood elementary, and they do seem to be a tight bunch and reasonably down-to-earth compared to some of the surrounding areas. |

College Gardens/Woodley Gardens (Rockville)
Olney, but the commute sucks Kensington/Garrett Park but you will get a shit shack for the money and the people are snobby Kentlands is more planned "small town" and the commute is 1 hour depending on where in DC. |
+1 There's a rotating potluck in our neighborhood, kids play together on the street, and people are always willing to lend a hand when you need it. |
Really? There is always a lemonade stand when the weather is nice, people are out and about constantly, tons of strollers and dog walkers, and insane number of kids, block parties in the spring and fall, easter egg hunt, Christmas tree lighting, octoberfest...what about that doesn't hit the target? |
Poolesville crummy school? Damascus? Clarksburg (Damascus and Clarksburg) crummy schools? You must be a 'W' schools booster. If it's not a 'W', it's bad, right? They are far from DC but they are not 2 hours each way, specially Clarksburg. |
I think this is about a street rather than small town. There is nothing about silver spring that screams smalll town feel. |
It's not just our block. The whole neighborhood is like this. But we def don't have a walkable post office or town square. I thought op was looking for the friendly neighborhood small town "feel" rather than an actual small town. |
