Finding a breeder

Ok.
I NEED a dog that is good with kids, not just fine with our's in our home but one that will happily engage with the dozens of kids at the playground, the soccer field, and so on.
I NEED a dog that is good with other dogs and all kinds of people, that I know doesn't have a history of problems or insecurities.
I NEED a dog where I know a fairly good amount about its history, both personal as well as its genetic history. Genetics not just for potential illnesses or health conditions, but also the breed type so I know what general types of behaviors or innate traits I can expect.
I also NEED a good amount of the dog's history in terms of its behavior, how it was treated, how it was socialized especially in the critical early stages before 16wks of age.
I NEED a dog with a particular type of tempermant, certain behaviors and character traits to fit with our family's life.
Yes, I want a dog that has a certain look.

Not OP, but please, don't be holier-than-thou.

I know the difference between wants and needs.

You WANT a dog with all of that, at the expense of another dog in a shelter.

You don't NEED a dog unless you live on a ranch or a farm.

You're certainly not alone in how you feel, but own it.

Valid point that I don't need a dog. I own that I WANT a dog, but not just any dog. If I have a dog then I NEED certain things about that dog. I own it, 1,000% which is why I just never understand the nastiness of those who put down others for the decisions they make regarding bringing another creature into their homes.

We used a breeder that I found here on DCUM. http://doodledogpups.com Former police chief Lanier got her Golden Doodle from them.

But here's a rescue doodle puppy: http://www.adoptapet.com/pet/17800373-fairfax-virginia-goldendoodle-mix

OP: I called and he's been adopted. This keeps happening!

Huh? This is totally false. They may have restrictions on specific dogs that are not good with kids, but I've never heard of a rescue with a blanket ban on adopting to families with young kids. Just one example, Lucky Dog in DC adopts to tons of families with small children.

It will save you money too.

OP: I've been trying unsuccessfully to find a rescue that will be hypoallergic for my son. Having a hard time. Was starting to think maybe we just need to get a poodle mix from a breeder.

My son is also allergic to dogs and desperately wanted one a few years ago. But our allergist told us that there is really no such thing as a hypo allergenic dog there are just some species that give off a lot less dander which in some cases can be enough for someone who is allergic to tolerate but it is not a guarantee.

In any case I did just find a few labeled hypoallergenic dogs out there up for adoption though admittedly none at the local shelters but they do appear to come available from time to time.

+1 Test this premise before you adopt or buy a dog. There is no such thing as a truly "hypoallergenic" dog that will work for everyone. I'm highly allergic to poodles and poodle mixes, but not allergic to my hound mix - it really varies by person.
