The PP isn't missing the point, you are missing his/her point which is that OP's likely is still waiting to hear from 1 or 2 schools, including VT but is feeling optimistic about those schools, having gotten into other schools that are comparably selective.

Including every detail makes for ridiculously long posts so peo

Ple simplify.

Not sure why I got cut off.

Correct, I wanted to be concise in my post. DD has acceptance letters from all listed schools except VT but we are confident she will get in and she seems to really like VT. We are in VA but we have saved enough for her to go to any of the schools so although it would be nice to have the in state tuition, it won't be the deciding factor.

From the various posts, it doesn't sound like any of the schools stand out or have a reputation as significantly better than the other.

Thank you for the thoughts. It sounds like Boulder is the overwhelming choice for lifestyle and I agree with this. I just wondered if any one of the schools was considered academically better than the rest.

I think from an academic side I would say UMd has the edge but that doesn't mean it's necc the best for your kid.

Reputation wise Colorado, JMU and South Carolina are a bit below the others -- which are all fine schools. Have you DD decide what fits best for her. Obviously UMD is a great school but you have to be motivated to sit in a class with a couple hundred kids in those freshman business classes. Good Luck

If she is going to go for business and you are in VA I would go to either JMU or Tech, depending on her personal taste. Both get decent on campus recruiting. No reason to spend more for out of state options that aren't that much better, especially when you may need grad school (for instance with accounting if she plans to sit for the cpa, of finance and wants an MBA two years out).

I have never heard a bad alumni experience out of JMU and it is a beautiful campus but the sports experience there is not the same as tech. Tech may be a harder place to fit in, but it would have the big sports scene, if she really wants that to factor into her decision.

I just don't see anything on your list that justifies the difference in tuition, save it for grad school or a down payment on a home.

Prestige-wise I'd rule out James Madison, University of South Carolina and University of Colorado, Boulder and lean towards Penn State or UMD. But that's my purely business school prestige-based East Coast perspective.

I would never send my child to Boulder in today's weed-smoking climate...too many students will be attracted to that. Yes, it's a beautiful place, but no way.

The staff in the business school at UMD is actually really good. I am not a fan of UMD for many reasons, but your DD would be in good hands with the advisors and other staff who run study abroad trips and what not.

I would look at the campuses and also, did she get into the business school at all of them. UMD you have to be admitted to the business school and if you aren't a direct admit, it can be tough to get in via letters and sciences.

Drunk kids getting hurt happens at all big schools and many small ones.

Sandusky is another issue.

school for slackers whose parents will pay over $50k for out of state tuition, frees and living costs, I agree, no way.

But you said she was admitted to Tech. She can't be since Tech is ED, which means you are wasting people's time.

You are the worst

The answer to this question is:

UMD, if you live in Maryland

VT or JMU if you live in VA

The other schools are all perfectly fine schools but not worth spending more than you would in-state.
