DH really pushing me to let 12 yo DS watch rated R horror movies

The kid is 12. I'm sure he's seen and heard worse on the play ground.

Somehow, the images as memories are more horrifying than they would have been if I'd seen them when I was a little older. I wish I had not been allowed to see that. Admittedly, I cannot handle scary movies, but seeing Pet Semetary was almost a traumatic experience. I can't imagine what my dad was thinking...

My mom let me watch when I was about the same age and it messed me up too. I read the book later and loved it, but I was still afraid to watch the movie. Finally I watched it as an adult and laughed at how bad the effects were. Some scenes still freak me out though.

I'd let them watch together. He enjoys it.

He just watched "The Ring", which is PG-13, and loved it.Now DH and DS are bugging the crap out of me, pushing me to let DS watch some rated R horror movies, which I'm NOT comfortable with. Am I being an overprotective party-pooper? They are giving me a hard time about forcing them to turn off a movie they were starting. I'm ok with PG-13, but not R unless it's something I've thoroughly vetted.

I think it's troublesome you give your husband so little agency. Listen to yourself "forcing them to turn off a movie." "...I've thoroughly vetted." Your husband isn't allowed to determine that your son is old enough to watch a movie with him? Why do you have so little trust in your husband's judgement?

The number of women who say stuff like that here boggles me. Are you married to your men or parenting them?

BTW I watches all kinds of horror flicks from the time I was about 8 and have never murdered anyone or even had a nightmare.
