$2500 for a business class ticket - am I insane?

Anonymous
I agree it's a great price for business class, but it's still $2,500 OP doesn't have to pay to achieve basically the same result -- transport from here to there.

Is the marginal increase in personal comfort worth that? It would be for me -- I fly all the time, always in coach, and I survive. Business class definitely looks more comfy, but I can think of a lot better ways to spend $2,500 on travel.

OP here. Wow, what a rude comment. My life is very full and rich, just not with a ton of "stuff" that I don't need.

You never bought a car, house, vacationed?
Why even work then?

Do it, OP!! I most certainly would!

The time machine charge makes it pretty expensive to go to "black Africa" and "the far east."

Research the seat types, space in between the seats and the total number of BC occupants, and compartmentation in BC (this affects restroom access and convenience and particularly cleanliness by the latter part of the flight, for instance).

Just make sure you are happy with the conditions you expect to have with your flight. And safe travels!

Totally agree with this. You can research on seatguru. Having done both, on a lot of planes the business class seems like a bit of a scam. If you are careful with your selection of coach seats, you'll be as comfortable as in business class. If by business class, you get a lie-flat seat, it might be worth it, but otherwise I don't think it's worth it.

The reality is that barring lie-flat seats, no modern commercial long-haul air travel is comfortable. It's an uncomfortable time no matter what.

I would not do it. For me a few hours of relative comfort is not worth that much money. I mean you could have 10 nights in a much better hotel for the same amount of money.

There is nowhere I want to go badly enough to pay $2500pp to get there. Total HHI 250k, net assets $1 million.

Yeah, usually we wind up with a stop over in Leningrad - especially if we are going to Ceylon.

Lol. That sounds nice, we usually disembark in Transjordan for a few days when we journey to Siam.

I would never spend that much.

Definitely do it.

Why don't you upgrade only for your trip TO Africa so that you're rested and ready to enjoy your trip and then return home with coach or "coach plus". The thought of being exhausted on the first days of a once-in-a-lifetime trip is a bummer, but you can probably survive on the return home.

And - sorry folks - business class is significantly better than coach!
