trump can be boorish and dismissive of various parts of the constitution, but in this particular setting, the president has always picked who he wants to pick. For CNN to spend a minute insisting on a right to ask a question was good tv for them, but was citing a precedent that doesn't exist.

All news orgs at one point or another get their stories criticized. And other reporters did ask about the Russia dossier, so it's not like it was ignored sans Acosta's unasked question.

Also, Trump did call on a different CNN person later, probably not realizing it.

Interestingly enough, I sat beside a CNN producer on the way out to Las Vegas just before the Republican debate there. There were tons of CNN people on the plane. I told her I shouldn't ask this but is The News Room anything close to reality or is it all BS? Her general answer was that it wasn't close to reality but she volunteered that Wolf Blitzer was really a nice guy. I wasn't expecting to hear that. It surprised me. And then I managed to act like a grownup and refrain from asking her any more questions in search of gossip.

A little off topic:

Journalism isn't what is used to be. The journalists are increasingly condescending towards their interviewees.

Trump is repulsive but Megyn Kelly's tone during the fateful debate was terrible. It seems like there is no effort to hide bias.

This interview just did it for me. It's painful to watch. The bias just shines through.
