No one knows what goes on inside anyone's marriage. But anyone who knows them knows that Bill and Hill at least have an intellectual connection and common passion for wonkish policy issues.

The only thing I'd have to say about the Trump marriage is it's hard to imagine any kind of stimulating conversation between the two of them. But to each his/her own.

As much as I despise Trump as a president and a person, anyone who thinks that Bill and Hill are more connected than Trump and Melania is crazy.

Not crazy. Just listen to their respective convention speeches. Or realize that Melania couldn't even write nice things about her own husband.

Melania's speech was curiously generic and non-specific about her husband and why she loved him.

I don't profess to say what goes on in the weird marriage of the Clintons, but I know from people who know them that they connect on a very deep, intellectual level. Even if there's no romance left, there is a common sense of purpose and interest and they can talk on the same level of intelligence about the world, books, ideas, etc. I can't imagine any kind of deep connection between Trump and any female. He likes his wives young, firm of breast, and long of leg, not for their minds.

Money is an aphrodisiac. Many women are very good at allowing themselves to fall in love with rich, charismatic men. History is littered with such examples.

Melania is from an Eastern Europe/Slavic culture, which is still strongly masculine and I don't doubt the possibility that she could have fallen in love with a rich, machismo billionaire. I have read / listened to a few interviews and there's enough for me to accept the sincerity of their marriage. It works for them and I think there's affection.

True, but he knew early on that he had political aspirations. He is a smart man. But he also knew he'd need to get his groove on elsewhere. It seemed to be an understanding. Why else would a strong, feminist, presidential-quality woman put up with that?
