BREAKING NEWS GREAT NEWS MAKE PWCS GREAT AGAIN** PWCS SCHOOLS CLOSED ON 1-20-17

I think it is because DC workers get the day off so a lot of kids are already missing school.

Stop complaining and take advantage of the cheap flights out of the area and go away for the weekend.

This was not predictable last year when the calendar was set? Really?

Loudoun has school. Thank goodness. Since we'll be off for 15 other "snow" days I'm sure.

What on earth are you implying? Inauguration Day is federal holiday - always. Schools get the day off. Nice to try and turn this into something political though.

Loudoun doesn't. PWC is no closer in.

Falls Church City is in Fairfax County. They just administer school separately. So federal government offices in FCC ARE closed.

No, FCC is an independent entity, not part of Fairfax. But I think the point is that the OPM guidance applies to DC and close-in VA and MD where federal offices are located, rather than where people live, and as far as I know there aren't any federal offices in FCC.

Other counties that are closed made the decision whether or not to close before they knew who would be the new president. That's reasonable, and the non-partisan way to do it.

It makes sense if you know PW County, which is much more like ROVA than NOVA (as in, the county that NOVA disowned). We'all take Loudoun-- but not PWC. One of our kids' favorite teachers moved from a FCPS AAP Center and a PWCS school, and her comment was that she loved the commute. And every single other thing was incredibly depressing. She back in FCPS this year .

What school did she teach at? I can see it, if she was teaching near rt 1, but there are plenty of great schools in PWC.

MCPS gave it off for the first time in 2009..but then decided they would have to always have it off to be nonpartisan. I have a feeling Hogans restrictions on the school calendar will cause it to end soon though. There is no way to accommodate all the days off with the mandated short school year.

Remember how they closed the schools at the last minute for the primaries? There are some people advocating for Loudoun to close so they can go to the inauguration.

I really, really hope they don't. Like you said, we'll be out of school all the time this winter anyway.

PP here. Yes, this is what I'm afraid of. I feel like 3 people call the school board and they decide that constitutes a "majority" of their constituents and cave. I really really dislike the Loudoun School board, for many many reasons.

That's because PWC has a ton of snow days built into their schedule.

They were great back in the 1980s and early 1990s when I attend.

Feds and most school systems have always gotten Inauguration Day off (no matter the party).

Nothing new.

+1. DMV Feds have always gotten it off.

My agency had it as a holiday/admin before the start of the Fus al year last October 2017.
