What's wrong with charter schools?

The theory of charters is fine. The practice is a lot less successful. The problem in this case, is that DeVos wants to take public money amd transfer it to parochial schools.

I'm a survivor of parochial schools and I don't want my tax dollars going to support them.

Charter and parochial are not always the same. I for one welcome the transfer. The public school system in my state is an astounding failure. Charters (many of which are secular) are often the only option middle- and low-middle class parents have to give their children a chance at half-way decent education.

And let's not forget that there's a percentage of charter schools that are for profit .... so education for the average kid is a money maker for the wealthy and corporations on the backs of public school systems. Awesome.

You mean Scamway?

Or the fact that she's a proponent of charter schools ...and has business interests in the charter school industry. No conflict of interest there. ?

"Conflicts of interest" are for Democrats and poor people.

Definitely not for presidents.

I want world peace.

(You can sympathize with Christians who don't want their tax money to pay for abortions, can't you? :wink

And since no tax payer dollars go to fund abortions, no tax payer dollars should go to fund religious schools.

Would you agree that tax-payer dollars should not go to fund religious schools?

Many Charters are structured to pay management fees to a for-profit affiliate.

Democrats would certainly know about that.

Hmmm, Diane Ravitch, who worked under Sen. Lamar Alexander when he was Ed Sec in Bush I, believes that these so-called reformers wants to privatize public schools in order to line their pockets with tax payer dollars.

For profit schools and those who profit from them should really be eliminated. It's education!

Well, we can make the one exception for the Clintons who made 65.5 million dollars from for profit education . . . https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/inside-bill-clintons-nearly-18-million-job-as-honorary-chancellor-of-a-for-profit-college/2016/09/05/8496db42-655b-11e6-be4e-23fc4d4d12b4_story.html?utm_term=.e3a9d347529d
